7:50pm Update
A new SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is out for eastern Kentucky until 1am. Here is the watch outline and the latest warnings…
Updates as needed. Take care.
Good afternoon gang. We have a very unstable atmosphere in place across much of the region right now and this will lead to thunderstorms going up quickly over the next several hours. Some of these are likely to become severe with damaging winds and large hail likely. An isolated tornado can’t be ruled out.
A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is now out for central and eastern Ky until 8pm. Here is a look at the watch outline and the latest warnings…
Follow the storms here…
These storms will also produce torrential rainfall that can lead to local flash flooding.
I will have updates as needed and will send out quick thoughts and warnings through twitter. Follow me at Kentuckyweather or follow along in the twitter feed on the right side of the blog.
Take care.

Hail to 3″ expected. SPC says moderate chance (60%) for hail larger than 2″. HIGH chance (90%) for severe hail (larger than 1″).
Where?
Yeah where?
Where are you seeing this?
SPC’s current outlook shows a 10% chance of hail 2″ or larger, and a 30% chance of hail 1″ or larger, mainly for eastern Kentucky only.
Everybody wants to know where, but I’m wondering Why? Then we’ll work on How?, What?, and When? Thanks I’ll hang up and listen.

Baseball size hail in Nicholas Co., baseball team had to pull off to take shelter. We have pictures with a baseball to compare, so I hope to post after our game!!!!
Mr. Biggins –
I still want to know where first. More interested in dodging a 3″ piece of ice than knowing why it developed. But the ‘why’ and ‘how’ are still interesting! lol
p.s. are you related to Roy Biggins of ‘Wings’ fame? 🙂
First we have to decipher do you want to know “where” the hail will happen or “where” they got the information from? Next Roy is my father and I’m married to his daughter.
Fair enough! lol
Loved it when your ‘Dad’ sang the National Anthem at Fenway.
Nice chatting with you.
No doubt brother. You bring back long lost memory’s, if you think that was good you should hear my wife/sister sing it. we’re kin to Biggie Smalls as well, so you know it flows.
I just love it that whenever a severe storm could or is affecting Lexington all channels are on the air messing up our show coverage. But when it affects only lowly eastern ky, nada! Nothing! Really?!
I just wanted to thank Chris for your continued work on this blog. Because of your tweet earlier, I was able to call my wife who works in Carlisle. She was able to pull over at a gas station and avoid the hail damage. Thanks Again!!!
