Good Friday everyone. We are kicking off our weekend on a very warm and windy note across the bluegrass state. Today’s weather isn’t a sign of things to come over the next few days as we do see some big changes blowing in later tonight. This will set us up for much cooler temps for the next several days.
High temps today will warm well into the mid and upper 70s with an 80 possible for some areas. Skies will be partly sunny with a little more clouds as we head into the afternoon. Stray showers and storms may develop across the region, but the bulk of the action comes in from the west this evening. That’s when a cold front works our way.
A slow-moving line of showers and storms will move eastward across the state tonight into Saturday. The rain will slowly end from west to east during the afternoon hours and some folks could see some decent late day weather… especially in he west. Temps will drop off in a big way with readings in the 40s to start and struggling to get out of the 50s during the afternoon.
Sunday will see us in between systems with some sunshine and temps near 60 for highs.
A few showers may drop in from the northwest Sunday night into Monday as a stronger push of chilly air works in. The new GFS is coming back around to a mega storm just to our east…
Taken verbatim… that’s a heavy, wet snowstorm for parts of the Appalachian Mountains.
Monday should be our coldest day of the bunch with temps in the low and mid 50s for highs. That will go along with a gusty wind.
Temps will slowly recover to normal by Tuesday and Wednesday. That should lead us into a very warm period for the end of next week as a heat ridge builds across the plains states…
We will need to watch for some northwest to southeast moving thunderstorms later in the week into next weekend. Those storms tend to fire up on the cusp of the heat and can often cause rounds of severe weather.
Have a great Friday and take care.
Better buckle in…..looks like the weather roller coaster is coming our way.
I sure hope we get some decent rain. Southern ky. Is very dry! My yard is already turning brown in spots.
Could use some rain, but we have had a little bit. Hopefully, the rain will give us some good relief, and then we can get some warmer temps after about Tuesday to help with my spring blahs! Thanks, Chris, for the update. YOU are appreciated more than you know, and I hope that the snow STAYS well to our east! Have a GREAT Friday, everyone!
I still just can’t believe how quiet April has been, both in terms of severe weather and rainfall in general. We’ve seen less than 2″ of rain for the month. After the start we got to March, and the pattern we were in all Winter, I really expected a lot of severe weather in April. This is wild. It’s so peaceful and tranquil weatherwise.
I see where Joe Bastardi is saying that the WVA mnts. to ontario Canada is gonna see a tree damaging, power outage snowstorm!..crazy!!!
Frankfort area has had 1/2in of rain in April, large cracks in the ground showing up and water levels are low for so early in the year. Lack of rain is starting to concern me about a very dry summer coming up??
With possible severe weather coming up here is a life saver app. The company that created the iMapWeather Radio app is giving away 60,000 free downloads of the app, and I feel it’s an important enough app that I need to post this pseudo-advertisement so you guys know about it.
