Good Saturday and Happy Kentucky Derby Day. As the nation turns its eyes toward the bluegrass state for one of the most coveted events in sports… Mother Nature is telling us to turn our eyes to the skies as some showers and thunderstorms come calling. We will set you up with some radars to track the rains and give a peak into a MAJOR warm spell for next week.

Our day will start quiet enough with a partly sunny sky into late morning and early afternoon. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will roll in from the west and northwest through the rest of the day and continue into this evening and overnight. Some of these will likely have some heavy rains and could be on the strong side.

For those heading to Churchill Downs… be sure to take the rain gear. The infield could get a little wild with the expected rains. Highs today will range from the upper 60s to low 70s.

Track the rain and storms on our radars…

The rest of the forecast goes a little something like this…

– Mother’s Day will start with a leftover shower or storm before mostly sunny skies take over. Temps will hit the low and middle 70s.

– A surge of summer air will move in for much of next week. Readings will head well into the 80s beginning Monday and this should carry us through Thursday, at least.

– The core of the warmth will be to our west and southwest and this means we will need to watch for a couple rounds of thunderstorms moving around the periphery of the ridge.

– Humidity levels will be up during this time.

– The cool air expected for the end of next week keeps getting pushed back a few days by the models. It is also looking less pronounced on some of them… especially the European Model.

That’s all I have for you crazy weather kids right now. I will update as needed so check back. Have a great Derby Day and take care.
