Good morning everyone. The week ahead will feature more in the way of big temps swings across the bluegrass state and much of the country. This wild temp fluctuation will lead to a couple of rounds of showers and thunderstorms and that may end up being on the booming side.

The short-term weather features a big snowstorm across the Appalachian Mountains. This may throw a snowflake or two into parts of eastern Kentucky early this morning. The rest of the day will feature a mix of sun and clouds with an isolated shower or two possible. Temps will be well below normal again with many areas in the low and mid 50s. Winds will continue to be very gusty and may hit 35mph at times.

We will see some warmer air try to fight back in on Tuesday and will cause some showers to fire up. Temps Tuesday will be cool once again. A strong cold front will then drop in Wednesday night and Thursday with the more widespread showers and thunderstorms. Here’s the GFS…

That could lead to some strong or severe storms with heavy rains. The front may try to put the brakes on around here or just to our south. That would allow for another area of low pressure across the plains states to work eastward into next weekend. That could also bring some big storms to the region and may have one heck of a temperature gradient to feed upon. Check these numbers out…

That is beyond impressive and is one way you can get some serious west to east tracking clusters of showers and storms to form.

Have a great Monday and take care.
