Good Sunday to one and all and welcome to another heavy rain episode for our part of the world. May is picking up right where our wettest April on record left off and that is likely to spell trouble for some of our streams and rivers in the coming days.

Let’s break it down…

– A slow moving cold front moves into the region today and will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some of these storms may be strong or severe. This should not be anything widespread in terms of severe.

–  This front puts the brakes on keeping rounds of showers and storms moving from southwest to northeast across the area into tonight and Monday.

– By later Monday into Tuesday… low pressure will be riding northward along the front and will bring more general rains our way. These will be heavy at times.

– How much rain will fall over the next few days? Here is my rainfall forecast…

– While that will be spread out over a three day period… it should be enough to cause more flash flooding for some and will be enough to aggravate the already flooded rivers.

Track the rain and storms on our radars…

Rainfall Since Midnight

Another aspect of this setup will be the chilly air that will be funneled in behind the departing low later Tuesday and Wednesday. Temps will be nothing short of chilly for many and this setup can produce some snows in the highest elevations of the Appalachian Mountains.

I will have updates as needed so check back. Have a great Sunday and take care.
