4:30pm Update

A TORNADO WATCH is now out for much of western Ky until 11pm. Here is the watch outline and the latest warnings…

WW0237 Warnings

The threat for damaging winds and tornadoes is VERY high across the entire state this evening into the wee hours of Thursday morning. More updates as needed. Take care.

Previous Update

Good afternoon everyone. Our day started with a severe weather bang and is likely to end with a severe weather bang across much of the state. Another round or two of strong to severe thunderstorms is likely across much of the state this afternoon into the evening.

We are getting a healthy complex of heavy rain across much of the area early this afternoon. One would assume this would decrease the overall severe threat… but that is not the case with this setup. Low pressure to our west will be working northeastward across the Ohio Valley into the evening hours. The dynamics and wind fields just ahead of this low and associated will need only moderate instability to kick off more severe storms

These storms will first impact parts of western and south central Kentucky then rapidly work northeastward across the rest of the commonwealth. Damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes will all be possible through this evening.

Torrential rains will also be likely and this will cause more in the way of flash flooding… some major for areas already experiencing high water.

Track the storms on radar…

I will have updates as needed on the blog and via twitter. Take care.
