Good Friday everyone. Our Easter holiday weekend is shaping up to be one that is likely to feature a significant rain event for much of the region. A FLASH FLOOD WATCH is in effect for much of northern and western Kentucky through Saturday.  This system will have a big impact for a lot of people as areas from Oklahoma all the way northeastward into Pennsylvania look to be in line for possible flooding.

Here is a breakdown of how this plays out…

–  Rain and thunderstorms will move eastward across much of the state today. Rains can be locally heavy at times.

– The main axis of rain and storms will slowly shift northward by this afternoon and evening. Our southern counties may end up fairly dry by the end of the day.

– Some of the storms this afternoon into this evening may be strong or severe.

– A cold front will dip southward toward the Ohio River and become stationary from Saturday into Easter Sunday. The front will be oriented southwest to northeast and will spark waves of rain and thunderstorms along it.

– Rain totals through the weekend can top 3″-4″ in some areas of northern and western Kentucky. I really can’t find too much to argue with on the latest rainfall forecast from the NAM…

– Flash Flooding and River Flooding will be a strong possibility in many areas over the next few days.
