3:30am Update
The line of storms is weakening out some across eastern and southern Kentucky. It can still produce damaging winds, but is nowhere near as strong as it was earlier tonight.
Damage reports continue to roll in after winds gusting to 70mph or greater swept across much of the state. I am hearing of extensive damage in Boone county from a possible tornado. Semis were blown over… severe damage was reported to a rest area and several homes.
Post any damage reports you may have. I will update things as needed and have a look ahead update later today.

UK sent out an alert saying we were under a Tornado Warning, alerting everyone to take cover. What a crock.

Madison, so far, has dodged all of the warnings and had just a handful of small power outages (per the KU site). Hope our luck holds out as everything winds down.

REALLY? It aggrivates me when people blow off threatening weather watches and warnings. I understand that younger people can’t remember the devastation of the ’74 tornados. I saw people’s lives torn apart because everything they owned was flattened in the middle of the night. We now have a greater understanding of severe weather. Chris and the other Mets work their hearts out so people can stay notified and God help you a tornado should actually hit somewhere close to those people who get irritated with trying to keep you safe.

It is not Chris’ fault if you can’t comprehend his posts. He sends out warnings in a timely and accurate manner. He has been up all night monitoring the situation. Perhaps you should find a source of information that you can understand. Chris is awesome. Back off.

Wow seriously if you think staying up all night and posting every single warning and watch is not fast enough you have some serious issues…..Chris is awesome and if you can’t see that find another weather board…..have you ever heard no news is good news?!?

You should get a NOAA weather radio. Then you can program in Lewis Co. (and the surrounding ones too) and hear the advisories as they come out. Mine woke me up at 2:00 this morning with news of a tornado watch. That let me call my husband so he could come home safely from fishing. These radios are definitely worth the investment in terms of safety.

There was NO Tornado Warning for Fayette County at the time. How would YOU feel if your University did that?
PS – I like how you just assume that I know nothing about severe weather and all of that. FYI, my middle school when I was in 8th grade had tornado damage and I had class for a little while in a temporary trailer.
I know what severe weather is capable of, and I also know that UK doesn’t give a crap about any sort of alert, lockdown, warning, or cancellation during winter storms, forcing one of my friend to wreck on her way to campus to try to take an exam while driving in on icy roads. But, by golly, they’ll lock everyone in the basement of their dorms for a Tornado Warning from 215-315 AM when the only Tornado Warning for the Fayette County area was from 145-215 AM.
I’m glad for the UKAlert system, all the mets, and all the technology we have — I’m not glad for UK’s choices on when and how to implement said system.
Pretty sure there was a tornado warning about 2 AM in Fayette County. Weather radio went off and saw the warning on the news also when we turned the TV on.
I tried to say this in my comment that went off to mod land, so it’ll probably pop up sometime. Anyway, there was a tornado warning from 145-2 roughly for northern Fayette and southern Scott. UK issued a warning at 215 saying there was a tornado warning expiring at 3 AM, which according to NOAA and WKYT, WTVQ, and WLEX was blatantly false. That’s my problem. My problem is UK, not the weathermen.

I do have family at UK…whatever the inconvenience it may have caused, I’m glad that the school takes care of it’s students.
Very ominous clouds in Johnson County….anyone seeing any rotation on radar because it seems to be spinning a bit at the moment?
