Good Saturday and welcome to the weekend. Things are starting off on a rather wet and windy note for many as a powerhouse low pressure works across the northern Ohio Valley. This storm spawned a major severe weather outbreak from the plains into the deep south. We got a glancing blow from from the storms and I don’t think anyone will complain.
Deadly tornadoes swept from Oklahoma and Arkansas into Mississippi and Alabama over the past few days. Here is some amazing tornado footage from near Jackson, Mississippi…
Our weather today will feature an early morning line of showers and storms moving off to our east. Scattered showers will then continue this afternoon into the evening and you can track it all here…
Winds today will continue to crank with gusts over 30mph at times.
Temps will generally run in the upper 50s and low 60s before falling into the 40s during the evening.

The rest of the forecast shakes out like this…
– Temps tonight into Sunday morning will be on the cold side with 30s for many. This means a touch of frost will be possible.
– Sunny skies will return for Sunday as our readings rebound into the 60s.
– A shot of warmer air moves in for Monday and may spark a scattered storm or two… especially across the north. Highs will be near 70.
– Tuesday can be a very warm day as temps head toward 80 or better on a strong southwesterly wind.
– The pattern for the middle and end of the week will find a front hanging out across the Ohio Valley. This is likely to prompt several round of thunderstorms and some of these can be strong or severe. This may also turn into a pattern that produces too much rain around here.
– I still see no real break in the overall stormy and wet pattern through the rest of the month. That doesn’t mean we won’t have some dry days… just that it is going to continue to be very active.

It seems the SPC and the NWS for Jackson and Louisville fell asleep as no watches for flooding nor Severe T-Storm or Tornado Watches were issued yet, Several Warnings of both were issued. Maybe its more than just the Air Traffic Controllers that need a nap to be able to work a shift at their job.
Do not dis the NWS!!! Could you work some of the shifts they do? I visited them once, and one of the guys had work long hours all week, and then had to come in very early in the morning to cover a severe weather event. They work so much harder than you or any of the haters think. And yes, severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings were issued, but THEY are the PROS!!! Not you. the storms pretty much died of after midnight. So please, know what they do and how hard they work for YOU before you go and dis them!!!

Wow, did that tornado really manage to miss everyone on both sides of the interstate? I was watching the video going, “no no no, people go faster! slow down! gahhh” as it started going across. Also, I swear it sounds like one of the voices kept saying “slow pickle” toward then end of the video. O.o
Wow – we had five-six hail events yesterday here at my place. Quarter size being the largest hail. This is the most hail events in one day that I have ever experienced. Most of the cells dropped pea to dime size hail. It was amazing.

I don’t need to be a pro to know that the ball was dropped. I have every right as a tax payer to make a comment about them if I feel the need to. Ive worked 24 hour shifts saving lives and never did my work faulter because of the hours. It seems to be a common theme with government workers these days. FAA flight controllers sleeping on the job maybe they need to look into NOAA workers for the same thing, maybe they feel too comfortable in their jobs to care about bringing thier A game every day.
Trust me, if the NWS met’s felt like a watch was needed, then they would have issued it. The storms fell apart rapidly, and thus no watch was issued. A watch would have been very premature and would have been equivalent to them crying wolf.
Any thunderstorm or tornado watches originate in the storm prediction center Norman OK. If you will go look at the archives they did have a discussion last night for our area and decided the storms were weakening and no watch was necessary.
in response to your comment on the nws; i would rather error on the side of caution than not error at all, after all it is the peoples safety we are dealing with here and not too mention the hard earned tax payers dollar that is paying their salaries.
so before you go and start downing people for dissing the government controlled nws with our tax dollars, maybe if they would do their jobs just like chris does his, then no one would be complaining.

so in closing, yes we as tax payers, have every right to bash the nws if the job is not getting done and in this case the job did not get done, PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!!!!!!!!!!

First off, don’t start that government workers BS. They work their butts off with very little pay. There are a few bad eggs, but that is true with every job, private or public sector. Also, remember that the SPC puts watches up for the entire country so they had a lot on their plate and probably weren’t going to put up meaningless watches with all that was going on. The local office is in charge of warnings and they did bring there A game.
what ever!!!!!!! first of all, i am not talking BS, I AM ONLY SPEAKING FACTS!!! 2ND thing is i as well as any other tax payer is paying the nws for a service that we should be getting and half of the time we are not especially in the local area. so if what you are saying is true about the spc, then if the weather was not eventful enough to warrant a flood watch, tornado watch. or severe thunderstorm watch, and yes i know, our local weather offices issues the flood watches, then why the all the local offices have to issue severe thunderstorm warnings and flood warnings for friday night and saturday?
you along with tornado larkin must have someone that you know real well that works for the nws or for the government.
i am not bashing all government employees but we as tax payers are paying for a service then we should get it, but then again maybe they take naps when it comes a storm, lol!!!!!!!!
