Good afternoon, everyone. Boy, that sun looks and feels awesome out there and is exactly what the weather doctor ordered. We get a few more days of the sun before we change it up by the end of the week and into the weekend. March looks to roar in like a cold lion into the first few weeks of the month. Blah.
The pattern late this week continues to skew just a little colder as a system passes through here on Thursday, with another to follow later Friday into Saturday. There’s even the chance for a little frozen stuff on the northern side of this second one as it brings much colder air in here behind it.
That sets up a very cold pattern, producing a storm track just to our south. Last night’s European Model has a swath of wet to east winter weather right on top of us over the next 10 days…
The Canadian Model is more enthusiastic with the winter weather opportunities from this weekend into early next week…
The ICON model doesn’t go out as far, but it’s singing a similar tune…
The GFS is trying, but it’s so darn cold that it takes the storm track even farther south with winter weather into the deep south…
So, the first half of March can certainly produce some interesting weather across Kentucky. Winter weather lovers should be liking the look of the pattern. Those of us who are #teamspring, don’t want anything to do with this! 🙂 That said, the pattern should flip to sustained spring MUCH quicker than last year! Woot!!
Have a great rest of your day and take care.
I think we all are excited for a possible early spring. 😉
Yes indeed, especially if it’s drier than the last 16+ months.
Spring comes the same time every year, no such thing as early spring…
This… there is nothing we can do to make it arrive any quicker se we may as well just enjoy the spring like weather we have been having
Not this. I’ve always said that we can do nothing to make spring arrive earlier.
Spring is right around the corner. The old timers knew what they were talking about when they say March comes in like a lion and leaves like a lamb. If that cold air that is bottled up gets in here in early March then the rest of the month can move on to spring like temps. I’m glad the cold is coming in right now and hopefully not later in the month. Spring is coming. Time change in two weeks.
Besides the brief King’s Island ride, Polar Vortex, all the big events have been Spring like. This seems to have been a very unWinter for most of Kentucky, sans some border areas.
No front loaded winter no back loaded winter, just not much at all of a winter. A few far in between mini very short lived cold snaps and that was about all.
Even the PV was less than previous ones. Wonder if we have a mild summer…..
Maybe, but mild summers in the Ohio Valley is getting about as uncommon as a good snow in the winter. I say hazy hot and humid summer. However my definition of hot is anything above 85 degrees.
Us Winter/Snow lovers have “been liking” just about everything even mentioned in ANYONE’S forecast this Winter. Too bad the ball has been dropped more than the cheap one on NYE in Times Square.
MIGHT see some good snows in the coming month. Hahahahaaaa! 😀 (Funny, yes, but then again….??!)
Those fantasy snow storms are the best aren’t they?
” the pattern should flip to sustained spring MUCH quicker than last year! Woot!!” …. I love you man! #teamspring
Question – running on the bottom on WKYT on TV is the flood warnings. Why is Estill County listed for both 3:30 am on Wednesday AND 4:49 am on Tuesday?
The trees have buds. Hopefully no freeze for the fruit trees.
My trees have had buds down here since the 1st part of Feb and we have had daffodils blooming as well.
My forecast .. Sunday March 3rd through Thursday March 7th below 35 for highs, few flurries, (no big deal)then the next weekend start the temps back up to 50’s. Oh yeah then when temps go back up…here comes rain!
By March 15th, no more talk of this horrible raining winter!
Will be the horrible raining spring after that. It’s rained for 1.5 years and I doubt anyone is going to turn the faucet off.
What is scary is the fact that spring through early summer is NORMALLY our wettest time of the year. This year spring is already forecasted to end up wetter than normal.
We can at least take some comfort in the fact that long range forecasts rarely pan out, after all this winter was supposed to be much colder and snowier than normal as well. So lets hope that wetter than normal Spring will be a bust forecast as well.
