Good Sunday and Happy Father’s Day. Today is the day we set aside to honor all the dads, but it may be Mother Nature trying to steal dad’s thunder. Get it? Thunder. My humor is lost on you people. 🙂 Showers and thunderstorms will be roaming about the state today and should give many folks a booster shot of rain.

The storms of Saturday were scattered, but packed a heck of a rainy punch. One to four inches of rain fell in several counties, prompting flash flood warnings. Today’s shower and storm action should be a little more widespread and impact most of the state.

Locally heavy totals will be possible once again. Some of the boomers may be strong or severe with high winds and large hail. Here’s your Father’s Day version of the tracking toys…

Here is all you need to track today’s action:

Temps today will be very tough to forecast for any one location. Areas getting in on showers and thunderstorms may have a tough time cracking 80. Those who miss a lot of the action and get more sunshine can flirt with 90.

A scattered storm may hang tough into Monday as the heat builds in. Upper 80s to near 90 will be common. Low 90s should take over for Tuesday and Wednesday under mainly sunny skies. A cold front moves in by Thursday and Friday with a good shot of showers and storms. This front may hit the Tennessee Valley and stall out next weekend into early next week. This could create a heck of a temp gradient across the eastern half of the country. Check out the European Model…

That setup would put us in the favored area for rounds of showers and storms. I don’t think anyone would complain about that. You will also notice the big shot of cool air I have been harping on.

Have a great Father’s Day and take care.
