Good evening, everyone. It’s all eyes on a developing winter storm taking aim at the region late Saturday night through Sunday night as our Winter Storm THREAT continues.
The Weather Prediction Center has a moderate risk for 4″+ snows across the northern half of Kentucky with a slight risk farther south. Here’s the WPC breakdown of the percentages of seeing that happen…
That matches up pretty well with the threat map I’ve had out since Thursday evening…
The European Ensembles like this same area…
The Control run does too…
I’ll have a full update later tonight, including a First Call For Snowfall map. #teamspring ain’t happy about that!
Enjoy the evening and take care.
TWC was trying to show a little rain sneaking in?
Still looks like an I64 on north event. South of that, not so much.
I agree with you from Morehead west but east into WV the snow line will be about 30 to 40 miles north of 64.
I cheer for you. Good luck. I will post again some time next week to you to see what happened as I am closing this page down for a while…cant bear watching the same people get more snow. I hope you get at least an inch.
No
Still thinking it’s a WKY miss….but well see…fingers crossed…
Choo Choo…it’s the rain train coming in for another visit to southern KY. Who’s ready for more gray, windy and cold days with flooding rains?
#kyweathersucks
LOL! This is just too funny and extremely accurate! The ONLY location in the entire state with a zero percent chance from the Weather Prediction Center is Middlesboro.
Harlan has 1%…LOL
If the map were for heavy rain of at least an inch, I would say 75 + percent for both Bell and Harlan. I had a decent first day of March rain here today! Not a huge threat for flooding, but this will keep us saturated. Stay dry as I am staying away from the blog for a few days…cant bear watching the same people post snow reports and pictures.
I will say this Terry, although Mboro misses out of some snows that the majority of the state gets, they also get an occasional snow that no one else gets and some times it’s a decent amount. Drive 30 miles NW to Knox and you miss out on both sides.
Yeah, Harlan lucks up sometimes too when the Deep South gets snow as the systems usually throw back just enough moisture for a few to occasionally several inches, especially when a low pressure tracks through the Carolinas! A few times, Harlan will be the only county in the state with snow thanks to being “edged” by a Carolina low. Sometimes m’boro will get in on a storm like that too
No forecast tonight seems to suggest much snow south of I64, so I’m confused with CB’s southern shift. The models seem to agree, aave for cherry picks.
No snow for Ashland. It’s actually a no brainer u don’t get snow if it’s above freezing. 38 degrees we’ll have rain. Just need to give up on forecasting
CB tweet says thunderstorms in south may limit amount of moisture reaching KY for snow. What!! Say not true.
This happened in December about 8-10 years ago. Forecasts up to the day-of had been predicting 6-12 inches. I even went so far as to give my parents their Christmas gift early (it was an electric snow blower). But storms in Arkansas and Mississisppi sapped the moisture and we wound up with no accumulation.
