Good Tuesday to one and all. Wow… another big severe weather event blasted the bluegrass state on Monday. We had widespread wind damage in many areas and even a few injuries as a squall line worked eastward with winds around 70mph for some. A few tornadoes also touched down.
This has been a crazy start to spring. It seems mother nature can’t make her mind up as we have had several rounds of severe storms with some light snows in between. Our spring temps are running below normal and everytime it tries to warm up… we get severe weather. Can’t a weather dude just get some sunshine and 70s for a while? ![]()
Where do we go from here? We have another shot of chilly today as skies slowly clear. Highs will top out in near 50 east with low 60s west.
Warmer air fights back in for Thursday and temps should return to the 70s and hang that way into the coming weekend. As a matter of fact… we have another shot at 80. We will also see the threat for some scattered thunderstorms over the weekend and that is something we will focus more on as we get closer.
Is the warm air FINALLY here to stay? The short answer is… no. It is still too early in the season to keep the 70s train going. If anything… we may have another chilly shot or two left in the take. Check out the latest temp anomaly map from the GFS Ensembles…
As long as we see the chilly air making charges southward into the states… this kind of back and forth temp pattern will continue until the seasonal change can get fully established. This also means we will likely see our spring severe weather season running in overdrive. As we have been saying… the pattern for this spring is loaded with rounds of severe storms and we are just getting things started in that regard.
Have a great Tuesday and take care.

Thanks for your dedication to us Chris. I got all the tweets while working, so I knew what was going on around the state. We got off pretty easy compared to the southern and eastern folks here in Woodford. Just a little lightning and some boomers.
I would prefer to keep the 70’s, but know the chilly temps will make and appearance or two before all is said and done. I can remember as a child having snow on easter a time or two!!
Well folks my power just came by on after 6 hours being off.I want to tell you I have never seen anything blow through this hard.It reminded me of the cat 1 hurricane I was in Fl.The big trees were bent you could not see for the sheets of rain.It did not last but 2-3 minutes but I have never seen anything like it.We have reports of damage in Pikeville dont know what my husband said the big Food city sign is blown out.
Oh no the heavy wind and rain is starting again pls dont take my power back off. This has been one scary evening.
Chris the wind that came through here had to be 70 mph or close. It was awful.
It’s ok for the chilly to come back occasionally. But it does seem to be losing its “staying power” – and that’s a good sign.
Large trees down here. Lots of damage through out the county.
A very intense sleet or hail storm just blew through my part of Bourbon County. My yard is covered in ice. It was pounding down something awful and then the sun came out all bright and beautiful.
Oh now heavy winds again and hail and more rain.Calgon take me away.
Yeah, one of those weird days where it can be dark and pouring rain one minute and sunny/beautiful the next minute.
Must be some impressive cold unstable air aloft. I just had an impressive sleet/hail shower move thru with a temp. At 45′ !!!!
The pattern is reloading. GFS shows a neutral to negatively tilted system blowing through late this weekend. SPC already has western KY outlooked. 🙂 Lots of 70s and lots of storms on the horizon. I luv it.
Yes!!! 🙂

Sadly, for WXman, there were no fatalities or property damage. Sorry dude!
Kinda summarized the event yesterday on my blog .
5 days into April…and EVERY day so far has featured wind gusts of at least 30 MPH. I’m getting a little tired of the wind. We should only have wind with the storms. 😉
does any radio stations down here in the London/ Corbin area do wall to wall severe weather coverage during tornado warnings or high wind 70 MPH + severe thunderstorm warnings. Also I am thinking that if we not had those tornadoes yesterday we would have been under a PDS severe thunderstorm watch
no thanks had my fair share of that yesterday 😀
