Good Friday to one and all. When I said our weather was going to be ugly… you may have figured this to be a day or two of nasty conditions. The fact of the matter is this has been a prolonged stretch of some of the ugliest late March weather we have seen in a while. It’s time to flip the calendar to April and to switch the weather script around a bit as the first part of next week could turn wicked for much of the region.
Our weather on this Friday is featuring more of the same. We do have a decent chance of seeing some rays of sunshine for a few hours today before the next system rolls in from the northwest. This will bring another round of showers in here later today into tonight. Follow the next band of pesky rains here…
Temps today will be warmer than the cold readings we had Thursday as highs reach 50 in several areas with a 60 out west. From there… our temps slowly begin to warm up through the weekend and you can see the very well here on the NAM…
That is a surge of some VERY warm air across the plains states that will be working into our region late Sunday into Monday. This is likely to have a band of showers and some thunderstorms on the leading edge of it for Sunday. Once the warm front moves through… wow… Monday is going to feel like a May day as highs soar well into the 70s.
A huge low pressure will develop across the plains states late Sunday and work eastward toward the Ohio Valley by Monday. The air out ahead of this will be very unstable as moisture streams northward out of the Gulf of Mexico. This should set the stage for a significant severe weather outbreak from the plains into the Ohio Valley and southeast from Sunday through Tuesday.
Here is the latest severe weather outlook for early next week from the Storm Prediction Center…
In addition to the threat for some big storms… we will have to watch out for some very heavy rains during this period. Several waves of low pressure will be riding through the region as a front stalls out. Chilly air will return for the middle of the week as we start to dry things out again.
I will have updates as needed so be sure to check back. Have a great Friday and take care.

You know what would be absolutely awful? If this system was really hyped, and then it did nothing. Sounds like a ton of severe weather events lately…..
Sounds like a busy time for sure, Chris. But I am still looking forward to warmer temps. Thanks fir the update! Hope things don’t get too bad nex t week.
Di you see NOAA’s latest weather update? http://www.crh.noaa.gov/news/display_cmsstory.php?wfo=lmk&storyid=66058&source=0

I’m getting a little more concerned about the system Monday evening. Looks like a perfect 850 vort max will set up over the Bluegrass, upper level jet trough moves in, good surface heating possible all day prior to the event, etc. etc. Just the makings of a BIG outbreak in the OH and TN Valley regions. I suspect Chris will be harping on this a lot this weekend.
Question. When has LMK EVER issued a special weather statement about a severe weather event 3 days ahead of time? This is very serious, and I honestly think we’ll see our first High risk monday.
Assuming UK takes care of business tomorrow, looks like crap will roll in here around game time Monday. Not a good scenario.
Power outage during the game would be scary! Sever weather stay away!
Nor do I want to see T.G. Shuck break in as Jorts goes up for a dunk.
Assuming UK does not take care of business, the storms will probably still roll in here around game time…lol.
Really, they will still happen if we lose? No sheet!
Yeah…and they may be some ‘biggins’
That’s a great response!
So what time does Louisville play tomorrow?
Nice! I don’t know what time their spring football game is.
