Good Thursday everyone. As our chilly pattern rolls on… we do see a little bit of light at the end of the temperature tunnel. It will likely come with a price as the pattern is getting ready to crank up into the first part of next week.
Today will be yet another fairly nasty weather day for much of the area. Low pressure will move northeastward from the Carolinas toward New England later today into early Friday. This will keep a fair amount of clouds around and may even throw a bit of light rain and light snow into the eastern part of the state. You can follow that here…
Our temps will continue to run on the cold side of things as many areas in central and eastern Kentucky will struggle to get much past 40 degrees for highs.
The sad temp truth…
Current Temps
As the low moves away early Friday… we will then turn our attention toward a clipper looking system dropping in from the northwest. This bad boy will bring some chilly showers back into the area late Friday into early Saturday when a wet snowflake will try to mix in. There is a bit of good news for Friday as we may have just enough lull in the action for a little bit of sunshine to boost temps up closer to 50.
Saturday should be another blah weather day before a surge of milder air arrives west to east Sunday. This happens as a big storm gets going across the plains states. We could see a bit of overrunning showers and storms at some point Sunday as temps hit the upper 50s east to upper 60s west.
The setup for early next week is one that can bring some VERY active weather to a lot of the country and we may be in the bullseye. Low pressure number one moves into the Ohio Valley by Monday leaving a stalled out front across our region into Tuesday as waves of low pressure work northward along it. This would mean we have the potential for some strong or severe storms and heavy rains. Here is a good look at the way the European Model sees this playing out…
Some model runs over the past few days have been putting down a ton of water. This GFS run from Wednesday was among the wettest…
While that is likely overdone… you can get a sense of the kind of potential we have for early next week. Oh yeah… as the rain moves out another chilly shot moves in for the middle of next week. ![]()
Have a great Thursday and take care.

The only caveat to this is that our Winter months did not follow the typical La Nina pattern AT ALL despite being one of the strongest La Ninas we’ve had in years. So who knows what Spring and Summer could hold for us.
Where does it look like the worst of the sever weather will be? I live in Bowling Green, and my children will be there, but I will be in the Smokey Mountains. Either of those places look to be the bullseye?

I don’t understand the ;( about the temps and snow/rain. A lot of us love this weather. There is plenty of time for warm and even hot temps for Spring and Summer.
Look how long Summer sticks around when Fall gets here, this is Winter’s way of paying back and again a lot of us love this kind of weather. I hope it lasts another month. So let’s see some :0) instead of frowns over this weather, it’s GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRReat!
I fear we’re not going to have any spring at all this year. Since winter won’t go away are we going to go right into summer?
visibility down to 1.75 mile in crossville Tn. due to SNOW/FOG !!
I’m with Chris.
It is absolutely your right to love this weather, and I won’t criticize your feelings because of that (and the fact that none of us can control it anyway). But for me, warm weather means being able to be more active – working in the yard, exercising outdoors, watching baseball/softball (which have started up), etc. That’s why you see the ;( on my face. I love a good snowfall and being able to use my fireplace – as long as the cold weather is confined to “normal” KY winter. Once it crosses over into what should be spring, it’s overstayed its welcome in my opinion and its impact on my heating bill and our ability to work/play outdoors trumps anything else. Not trying to argue – just explaining why some of us don’t care for this type of weather into April.
big ole fat wet snowflakes still falling here in knox co.
ACTIVE weather in central Florida. Lakeland – lots of damage;
airport hangar collapse with injuries.
I’ll be updating this to my blog shortly and following the severe weather for a little while longer
WOW. 12Z GFS is getting even more serious today with our severe weather on Monday/Tuesday. The southeast will probably have a massive and widespread severe storm outbreak early next week.
had off and on light snow showers most of the day. Just had a pretty good snow shower while getting kids off school bus. Looks like it might hang around for a little bit this eve according to the radar.
Update over on my blog for those interested.
Excitement is beginning to set in in my body 🙂
