Good Wednesday everyone and welcome to another nasty weather day across Kentucky. A chilly rain and some wet snowflakes will combine with temps only in the low and mid 40s to steal another spring day from us. I don’t know about you guys… but this stuff is getting old FAST.

Low pressure will quickly work eastward across the southern states today. Light rain and some wet snow will be common across our state through the first half of today. The best chance for seeing a mix and some wet snow will be across the north where a small accumulation can’t be ruled out for a few areas. The precipitation will slowly pull out from west to east today as low clouds remain for central and eastern Kentucky. Highs today are really going to struggle for many areas and the far north and east may hang closer to 40 while the west hits the mid and upper 40s.

Follow all the nasty action here…

The weather for Thursday will feature more well below normal temps as many areas stay in the 40s yet again. While many people don’t consider this “cold”… it’s all relative to the time of year. Our normal highs are well into the 60s right now and that makes 40s “cold” in my book.

Thursday night and Friday will feature a big storm cranking across the Carolinas and riding up the east coast. This is likely to bring a serious thumping snow to areas of the mid atlantic into the northeast and may throw a rain or snow shower into eastern Kentucky. Our temps will again be… cold.

European Model Friday Morning

An early April version of a clipper will move in from the northwest late Friday into early Saturday with a shot of some light rain. This will also keep our Saturday temps on the chilly or “cold” side of things again.

There is some hope for milder temps by Sunday and Monday. A big storm will develop across the plains and make a run at the Ohio Valley early next week. This should give us a nice return flow from the southwest later Sunday and Monday. Temps should spike up during this time and we can get closer to normal. The problem is Sunday may feature some overrunning showers and thunderstorms with a much better threat for some storms for Monday…

That could actually produce some strong or severe storms around here and is something we will have to watch for. You see quite the temp gradient showing up across the country on that map and the colder air behind the front is likely to push back in for the middle of next week.

I continue to see a heck of a stormy overall weather pattern for the middle and end of April. This is one that should produce more than the normal amount of severe storms.

I will have updates as needed so check back. Have a great Wednesday and take care.
