Good Friday to one and all and welcome to the weekend. This is likely an extended weekend for a lot of basketball crazed people across the state as a lot of us like to find new and unique ways to miss work to watch some hoops. **COUGH COUGH** ** Hey boss… I have a dentist appointment this afternoon**
The weather Thursday was perfect for anyone playing hooky from work and today should be another pretty good day to do so.
We will have some changes in the weather out there today as a cold front moves in from the northwest. This will cause an increase in clouds as winds begin to pick up. There isn’t a ton of moisture available for this front to work with, but a scattered shower will be possible today. A slightly better chance for a broken line of showers and thunderstorms will be with us this evening into tonight as the front works through.
You can play “find the shower” here…
High’s today will generally range from the upper 60s to low 70s once again and it will be all about the clouds verses sun battle where you live as to which you get.
Current Temps
This front will settle just to our south on Saturday as our temps come down several degrees. Readings will likely top out near 60 for highs. Most of the region will see a mix of sun and clouds.
The same front will return northward as a warm front Sunday into Sunday night. This is likely to touch off a few rounds of showers and thunderstorms as it does. Temps Sunday will be very tricky because of the rain chances and we may also see a pretty big temp gradient on either side of this boundary.
Much warmer air will move in for Monday and Tuesday as temps spike back up toward the 70 degree range.
This will help fuel the fire for a big storm to crank in the plains states by Tuesday and Wednesday. This will roll eastward into the Ohio Valley by mid week and will increase the threat for showers and thunderstorms.
Behind it… get ready. A pretty big shot of cold air should be moving back into our region and into much of the eastern half of the country. You can see this well on the European Model…
You know… a setup like that could also produce some flakes of snow around here. It is still March and that isn’t exactly breaking news. ![]()
Have a great Friday and extended weekend. **cough cough*
Take care.

Whoa!! All hail Morehead!!
Agree!!!!
What? I came here for a weather update…..and a dead Cardinal pic. Anyway, congrats to MSU and the Wildcats.
That was an AWESOME game! GO EAGLES!
Yeah – what I’m looking for is the T-shirt where the triumphant eagle is feeding on the dead cardinal!
Thanks Chris, hoping for a March blast of cold! But as far as playing hooky for basketball— can someone tell our President he’s not allowed to do that? Thanks! 😉
It’s SO nice outside! Still an outside chance we could have clear skies for the “supermoon” rise tomorrow night.
WEll, I am one of the ones who is working today, but the games are on the tv in the waiting area. Right now, we have some might pretty sunshine here, and a temp of 66. Dread having to see the cold again, Chris. But I haven’t put away the winter duds, either. This is the time of year I dislike the most…warm one day and cold the next. OH well, Spring is coming! Soon I hope.
Guess if he took 30 vacations a year to cut briars on his “ranch” while playing pseudo-cowboy you would be happy? 🙂
12z gfs showing a severe potential for wednesday. instabilty a bit higher than with past events this season but shear not as impressive. moisture is sufficent as well. This should bear watching.
We need some severe. We got teased a couple weeks ago.
Even though we’re stuck with upper 60’s up here in NKY today, I’ll take it. And look at all those mid-70’s in the rest of the state!
A March blast of cold NOT welcome!!!
with a few red feathers falling to the floor…THAT WOULD BE GREAT!!! Have the tail of the Cardinal sticking out of the Eagle’s beak…ROFLOL at the visual.
beautiful day here in Georgetown!!!
Who wishes for things like that to happen to people?! I still haven’t found all of my friends in Japan yet, so I’d really rather not have to worry about any HERE right now too.
My sister looks under the gun right now in Indy I should call her. That red on the radar looks bad for her.
Not sure why everyone thinks WXman wishes death and destruction when talking about severe weather. I for one like when we get severe weather. Reminds me of where I grew up in south Georgia! Of course, most of what is severe weather here is just a regular ole storm in south Ga 🙂
Um yea… I don’t recall ANYWHERE saying that I hope people die and houses blow away. Now did I? Simple fact is…severe weather is exciting and if you don’t want to hear about it, maybe a weather blog isn’t the place for you to hang out. Just had a good thunderstorm here in Lburg a few minutes ago!! Woohoo!
Heavy downpour here with some thunder and lightning.
Everyone should read this about a possible pending disaster.

There are so many debates on whether or not the New Madrid fault is a danger. Some say it’s not active and others do. I also read that the church bells ringing in Boston was an urban legend and that didn’t happen. I don’t know. Based on what’s been going on in the world the past decade, who knows. It is CREEPY to think about.
I wonder, when, in 1812 or 1816 I think when they had it, how bad the earth shook in central KY. You know they had to have felt it. It is relatively close
I wonder what the magnitude was in
I believe it was a 7.6 and yes it was felt many states away
My geology is a little limited, but I believe the limestone would absorb a lot of the energy, somewhat protecting the bluegrass, though Louisville and Cincy may get screwed. There was a quake in Indiana a few years ago and the shake map on USGS had a hole around Lexington with a lot of people feeling it in all directions around Lexington, but very little in central Kentucky. I’d still rather not test that.
I completely agree with that statement, That guy s is a nut job if he thinks that we want people to die. And that storm was pretty nice, hopefully just one weak one in a line of more to come!!! 🙂
I read it, but I refuse to let myself worry about something that I have no control over. God has control over me, and everything else and I have faith that he is with me always.
Everyone should consider that EVERY area with a fault in the vicinity should be alerted for a pending disaster.
With the magnitude of has happened (ing) in Japan, it’s going to take Mother Earth a while to get all the current shakes out of her.
For example, I would gladly take a New Madrid quake (where there would be a Local devastation) instead of the Yellowstone Caldera were to go (which would cause planetary devastation).
Living in Southern California for a large majority of my life, earthquakes are something we deal with time to time.
The earth’s surface moves as we do, at our own speed. Have earthquakes happened in the past? Yes. Are they happening now? Yes. Are they going to happen in the future? Yes.
All we can do from disasters such as this is learn from them. We can’t stop them from happening.
Hello, comrade! I am absolutely accede to that way of assumption and all of connected.
