Good Thursday everyone and Happy St. Patrick’s Day! We have hit the weather jackpot today as we have a big blue sky and temps warming to early April levels. This is the kind of weather we have all been waiting for as we kick the ugly stuff to the curb… for now. ![]()
Sunny skies will be noted today as Irish eyes will be smiling across the entire region. Temps will head into the mid and upper 60s for the eastern half of the state as western Kentucky gets in on some low 70s.
Check on your temps here…
Current Temps
The rest of the forecast finds a few changes for the weekend as the front we have been talking about moving in may show a little more staying power. Let’s break it down…
– Friday will see an increase in winds, temps and a few clouds ahead of our front. Highs should top 70 for most areas before all is said and done.
– A cold front sags southward into the region Friday night into Saturday. This will likely have a few showers with it.
– Temps For Saturday should come down to around 60 for highs.
– This front will hang around into Sunday and can kick off a few showers for those closest to it. Readings will again be in the 60 ish range.
– As the front finally returns northward as a warm front Sunday night and early Monday… a round or two of showers and thunderstorms will be possible.
– Temps early next week will again warm toward the 70 degree mark for a few days.
– A big change in the pattern is likely toward the end of next week as a sharp cold front blasts through. This may have some thunderstorm action to work with. The big news will be the chance for a big shot of chilly air behind it. Here is the GFS for next Thursday…
I want to continue to stress the potential for a very active severe weather period toward the end of the month into April. This spring severe weather season from the plains into the Ohio Valley is likely to be rockin’!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day and Happy Hoops Watching to one and all.
Take care.

Top of the morning to you Chris!! I’m loving hearing the 70’s mentioned in your forcast, but booooooooooooooo for the chill down! Don’t mind a few showers and storma as long as they’re not everyday!!!
Bring on the Boomers, I am ready!!! Call me weird… but an angry, boiling, sky twisting and churning is what excites me about weather the most. I am in awe…
I couldn’t agree more. 🙂
Thanks Chris. Appreciate the update, and all you do. Gonna get outside every chance I have today!
It looks like winter is over…:(
Those clowns over at Accucrack.com are talking about snow for Kentucky next week. There is no model support for significant snowfall here, and hasn’t been since the end of February. And even IF it did snow a little…newflash..it’s MARCH. We get snow in March all the time.
Congrats to the Morehead State Eagles! Several friends are Morehead Alumni and so happy for them and happy for such a wonderful school!
Fantastic Weather.
Congrats to the Wildcats!!!! 🙂
I know this is gonna sound “off the wall” but the students here in Laurel County need another snow day so they don’t have to make all the days up they missed. I just don’t like the idea of school goin’ on way into the summer.
Just wantin’ One more snow day here…Then bring on all the sunshine.
Hope everyone has a GREAT DAY
for your info. your own chris bailey went on record a couple of weeks ago and sais this area had not seen its last snow fall. by the way joe bastardi is with weatherbell.com now and he to is saying a major shot of cold toward the end of the month alonf with a shot of snow in the air and on the ground.
one theory in weather is if it snows in japan, look out in the eastern us 7 to 10 days later because you usually have a snow of some kind.
fyi there is model support for this, in fact the gfs is showing a wave along the front next thursday and friday bringing accumalating snow to the eastern part of the nation.
so next time you need to get the facts before you type.
Update over on my blog for those interested.
