Good Tuesday afternoon everyone. Severe thunderstorms are working in from the north and will move in over the next several hours. This is a dangerous line of storms capable of producing winds of 70mph as it dives southeastward.
A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is out for northern Kentucky until 3pm and I suspect additional watches will be issued. Here’s a look at the watch outline and the current warnings…
Regional Radar
I will have updates as needed and will send out updates and warnings via twitter. Follow me: @kentuckyweather . Have a great afternoon and take care.
With the new extreme weather pattern, do you feel these derechos are going to become more common? And this one looks to have a different look than last time. Does it have the straight line winds like a few weeks ago?
Thank you Chris. Flashlights charged, check.
Extra batteries ready, check.
Candles ready, check.
Things secured outside, check.
Oh my. If I’m seeing correctly, the Huntington area is in the path for more storms. Watch out sister.
Okay, I have plans for an outdoor dinner in Lexington this evening. Should I be changing plans while I still have time? Or since the watch ends at 7pm, will the storm and rain threat be gone by then and will it be okay for dinner around 7:30 or 8:00?
Hearing there is a derecho that will effect the EKY area in a little bit…..how fast will the winds be and will that be the end of the storms for the day or will more fire?
Looks like the line is shrinking and will affect mostly northeast Kentucky and far eastern Kentucky. The watch box was way too far west.
