Good Tuesday everyone. A slow moving low is working across the state today bringing us another case of the uglies. Showers… gusty winds and a big temp swing will dominate the weather today. Hang tight… we have some VERY nice air getting ready to move in here later this week.

In the short term… rain drops keep falling on my head… feel free to sing it with me. These showers will be locally heavy today with the greatest concentration being across central and eastern Kentucky. Some areas can pick up an additional half inch of rain before we finally get this bad boy out of here Wednesday. Follow the drops here…

With the low on top of us… this will make for a pretty big temp swing from west to east. Areas into the eastern half of the state will see temps pumping up into the 50s. Behind the low… colder air will be noted in the west where temps will struggle to get out of the low 40s this afternoon.

Current Temps

The low pulls away on Wednesday and we will reverse the temp pattern with the east seeing the chilly air as clouds morning showers linger. The west will begin to warm things up as temps spike into the mid and upper 50s.

Are you ready for some spring? We have a serious dose coming your way for the end of the week then again late weekend and early next week. Temps for St. Patrick’s Day Thursday will spike into the upper 60s and low 70s. Friday looks to be even warmer with temps likely to be well into the 70s!

We will still have to watch for a weak front dropping southward Friday night into Saturday. This may touch off a shower or two before heading back to the north as a warm front and allowing for another big surge of spring warmth.

I am still not sold on this being “true spring” as blocking looks to return toward the end of the month and that usually means the chill isn’t done with us. Check out the GFS Ensembles Temp Anomaly forecast…

We will worry about the end of the month when we get there. Until that point… let’s kick this upper low on out of here so we can bring on some spring temps!

Have a great Tuesday and take care.
