Good afternoon, everyone. I wanted to drop by for a quick update on the rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms working through the region. Our flood threat continues to be the primary player, but a few strong storms may sneak into our southern counties late today.
The Flood Watch was expanded to include areas of eastern and northeastern Kentucky through tonight…
The new Rainfall forecast from the GFS continues to edge the heavier rains a bit farther east…
That matches up very well with the rainfall forecast I put out yesterday…
Local flash flooding issues may develop, but the general flooding threat continues to be the thing to watch for. That’s especially true late this afternoon into this evening as the storms rumble through.
Speaking of storms, the low-end risk for severe weather continues across areas of southern and southeastern Kentucky…
Damaging winds will be the main player with any storm that goes up.
If we get any warnings today, those will show up here…
I will have additional updates as needed today. Your Sunday afternoon tracking toys are here to keep you company…
Possible Watch Areas
Enjoy your Sunday and take care.
Went out in a hoodie thinking it was December 29 and could of worn flip flops and shorts instead. I was roasting in the 70 degree weather. What a great stretch of temperatures we have had in late December. We now know how it feels to be in central Florida during the winter.
69 in Harlan right now. Sun is trying to come out, so it could legitimately make a run towards 75 today!
I have run the AC in my vehicle now 6 days. The snowbirds are wasting money going south this year. Well actually the last 3 years too.
I have a few times in my house, lol. I have mostly opened the windows, however. Very warm, dry in Harlan. That warm SE, dry wind is blowing, skimming my area on rainfall. I still think I will get more tonight than the models show, but that dry SE wedge is depicted well on the models for this event!
That dry SE wind usually affects my area too. Especially in Winter back when we used to get Clipper systems. Today I have been right on the edge of the rain. Just a few periods of light stuff. Otherwise just damp and humid.
I think once this current rain system exits tomorrow. Tuesday will be dry and cooler, not cold though. It will still be above normal, just not 30 to 35 degrees above normal. After that the warm/humid air rushes back in for more of the same.
76 degrees here right now.
Its already precipitated 1 inch of rain today in my backyard
It’s been raining all day here. No flood watch, though.
On the local tv news, local met added snow showers and flurries to the forecast Monday night -Tuesday. He also lowered the temps for Thursday and Friday. 60 degrees is gone from the forecast. We shall see.
0.01 in Harlan. LOL…this system wants nothing to do with my area. Dry, warm SE wind has sheared to death every shower headed my way. I should finally get a little as the front comes later tonight.
It has rained hard in Knox for a while now..
LOL! One thing guaranteed: The precipitation is gone when cold enough to snow.
