Good soggy Saturday afternoon everyone. The main focus for heavy rains is now shifting into the eastern half of the state. This is the area we will really be watching for the potential for flooding later tonight into early Sunday.
A cold front is slowly working eastward and slowing down in response to another low pressure developing along the boundary. This low will work northward and bring heavy rain to the eastern part of the state. Rain totals of 2″+ may be common in this region through Sunday morning. This would be enough to trigger flash flooding and river flooding for some.
Much colder air moves in Sunday and will likely change the rain to wet snow in the east. A slushy accumulation is possible in what would turn out to be the end of a wild weather weekend.

Thanks, Chris. The rain has definitely picked up here, for sure! Glad I got my runningdone this morning before it decided to get started! Everybody stay safe, and hopefully dry. But please keepan eye on the rivers and creeks nearby.
I’ll gladly pass on anything remotely slushy…..no more winter please!
So, the rainw asn’t nearly as bad as they thought here in Central KY. Unless of course there is more that will develop. This was the lowest total out of the three we have had.

@blizzardtim: looking at the radar, it looks like we have a LOT more coming our way. Wish BUC’s tv station had a better report of the river level. How do we even know it’s current when the station has been broadcasting a date from a year ago (today it show March 6, 2010!)

Real time data on rivers and streams across the state.
Thanks Packman! Useful site to bookmark. Maybe the stage information is correct (although likely from yesterday) at around 5 ft. I guess the Cumberland goes back down almost as quickly as it can flood (looking at the Williamsburg data).
What a dreary day! Besides the snow possibility tonight, are we still to expect another snow? Or is the cold air not going to have to come down? I don’t want to get too excited about spring if their is more snow coming.
I’m with you on the dark depressing no sunshine, Vit D is real low at the moment!
What a rainy day!!! I’m pretty much sick of the rain, unless it is with severe weather. Let’s hope there is some later this week.
There is an update over on me and mitch’s blogs.
How cool…your poetry adds an abstract and absurd touch to our blog…like a dose of the avant-garde for us culture starved hicks. Keep it up, please.
No worries. The data is extremely accurate and up to date. The gage sends data out as it takes it and it goes online immediately. The USGS is constantly taking field measurements to assure the gages accuracy.
Congrats to Kenneth Faried and the Morehead State Eagles!!!
