Good Saturday to one and all and thanks for checking out the blog for your weather needs. We are kicking off another heavy rain event across the state and it is likely to produce more high water issues into Sunday. To top it off… the rain may end as a period of wet snow for some. All in all… this will be a busy weather weekend around here.
Here is the breakdown…
– Occasional rains will increase from west to east today and will become heavy at times.
– A cold front will be slow moving across the region today and will have a wave of low pressure along it. This will help enhance the rains.
– Another low will develop along this front tonight into Sunday and will roll northward from the western Carolinas into eastern West Virginia by evening.
– That low will bring a heavy round of rain to central and eastern Kentucky.
– Weekend rain totals will range from 1″-2″ in western areas to 2″-3″ in the central and east. The NAM continues to show this…

That would be enough to cause some local flash flooding and another round of river flooding for some areas. If you live in a flood prone area… keep checking on water levels and keep checking this or other weather outlets for updates.
Follow the progress of the rains here…
Much colder air swings in quickly from west to east late tonight into Sunday. Temps will fall into the 30s and the cold may catch the back edge of the rain shield changing it over to a period of wet snow… especially in the east. I cannot rule out a slushy accumulation for some.
The NAM continues to show the slushy threat…

I am no longer in the snow and cold mood and I am not liking what the long range pattern looks like for this month. “True” spring is still a ways away. ![]()
I will have more updates on the weekend flood potential later today so check back. Have a great Saturday and take care.

Flirst!
Good grief Charlie Brown! Where is Spring? 🙂
Thanks for the update Chris and everyone stay safe this weekend.
Looking forward to daylight savings and then Spring. I am so tired of short cold days. I am already enjoying the sound of frogs from the pond and seeing the daffodils blooming. I guess we will have some slushy days before Spring arrives. March is always so unpredictable.
Thanks for all you do Chris,I still wish you were back in central KY, but for now I will settle for your blog.
Okay, Chris!!! You are the best. We will definitely be watching the Cumberland River here in Barbourville. But, I am more interested in the “no early spring, thing”. Do you see a little more snow for us??? Hoping….
Thanks, Chris. Radar looks ugly this morning with the heavy rain headed this way. I am not liking the “no early spring” thing….I hope that the weather doesn’t fool the trees into budding too early and getting killed.
For today, everybody just stay safe and be careful when you are out.
Chris, we’ll be watching the blog for your updates. Thanks again for all you do.
So when can we expect the first Winter 2011/2012 Outlook? That is the question of the hour

Yeah really. Enough will all the teasing about winter not being over. What’s coming and when might it be here?
So where was all of this moisture when we had the cold?
33 and above = wet
32 and below = dry
I say what, I say a round stank a lardum is about to commence a cow po cardum round here cross east Kentuck. Got the creek up bout half the way and a bartle doo of a chicken pow comin this way!
I’m worried that once it stays warm long enough (like it has been here for the past 2 weeks or so,) and the trees start budding out, an ice storm or a moderate snow event will try to sneak its way in here and stress out the trees.
It seems in recent years with an unusually early warm streak, cold comes back in a big way for a few days and tries to keep the trees from blooming out too early. Let’s hope its a moderate snow event and not an ice storm that happens. And if it’s gonna be snow this late in the winter season, they’re usually of the very heavy and wet type.
Yeah…Looks like the next two weeks are going to be stormy every few days with temps in the 50’s….Why could these systems been around a month or two ago..
Looks like the main line of rain has moved out of my area. Is there going to be another line forming or is it clearing out? I’ve had enough already!
