Good Saturday to one and all and thanks for checking out the blog for your weather needs. We are kicking off another heavy rain event across the state and it is likely to produce more high water issues into Sunday. To top it off… the rain may end as a period of wet snow for some. All in all… this will be a busy weather weekend around here.

Here is the breakdown…

– Occasional rains will increase from west to east today and will become heavy at times.

– A cold front will be slow moving across the region today and will have a wave of low pressure along it. This will help enhance the rains.

– Another low will develop along this front tonight into Sunday and will roll northward from the western Carolinas into eastern West Virginia by evening.

– That low will bring a heavy round of rain to central and eastern Kentucky.

– Weekend rain totals will range from 1″-2″ in western areas to 2″-3″ in the central and east. The NAM continues to show this…

That would be enough to cause some local flash flooding and another round of river flooding for some areas. If you live in a flood prone area… keep checking on water levels and keep checking this or other weather outlets for updates.

Follow the progress of the rains here…

Much colder air swings in quickly from west to east late tonight into Sunday. Temps will fall into the 30s and the cold may catch the back edge of the rain shield changing it over to a period of wet snow… especially in the east. I cannot rule out a slushy accumulation for some.

The NAM continues to show the slushy threat…

I am no longer in the snow and cold mood and I am not liking what the long range pattern looks like for this month. “True” spring is still a ways away.

I will have more updates on the weekend  flood potential later today so check back. Have a great Saturday and take care.
