Good Friday everyone. We are coming off a VERY active weather day across the state as Thursday into early this morning featured flooding rains and severe storms. Things are calming down and cooling down across the area today.
I wanted to give you a quickie look ahead as we have another active storm set to move in late this weekend into Monday.
In the short term… temps today will fall into the upper 30s and low 40s and stay there into the afternoon. Saturday looks like a good day with partly sunny skies and temps bouncing into the low 50s.
Another powerhouse low will develop in the plains states on Sunday and slowly work toward the Great Lakes by Monday. As warmer air lifts northward into the state Sunday… scattered showers and thunderstorms will try to develop…
GFS Sunday Afternoon
Monday Morning
As the low deepens and heads into the lakes… it will drag a strong cold front through the state Monday. This will likely have a potent line of heavy rain producing showers and storms with it. This may spawn some strong or severe storms once again and is something we will be watching for.
Given the saturated ground from the current rains… it won’t take much rain to cause some more high water issues. Oh… gusty winds will also be noted. Busy enough for you? ![]()
I will update things later today. Until then… enjoy your Friday and take care.

Thanks Chris. The winds and heavy rain have diminished now it was scary there for a few minutes.I felt like crawling under the bed lol.
What happened to the return to winter? No snow anywhere in the forecast that I can see. 🙁
Why is it that greenup and Boyd county ky never get the snow. It is February and I guess all this rain is our big snow storm for the year. We never get the the big one.
Any signs we go back to cold & snowy, or are we done with winter?
The GFS shows a decent storm for next Sun. the 5400 line goes right across KY. Could be a decent snow for all. I know it is a week out, but I have said all alont that March would be COLD AND SNOWY…I guess we will have to wait and see.
If todays GFS 6z is and indication of what is to come we are in for a wintery period all of next week. March 6th – March 13th. Don’t put away your winter weather gear just yet!!!!!
I was wondering the same thing! What do you think, Chris?
Yeah Chris! What do you think??? How about tornadolarkin, riddle, or Mitch….Any comments..
Very strong cold wind at my place this morning. About knock you over. Temps dropped at least 10 degrees in an hour or so. A few flakes were in the air when I got to work in Nicholasville. Crazy weather.
Light snow in Somerset at 10:13 EST temp is 39.2 degrees. Go figure?
Few minutes later it’s bright and sunny.
Just as the weather made it to my house last night my internet messes up! It is really annoying because I depend on the blog and Chris’ twitter to keep my updated. Thank goodness there wasn’t anything severe here in Bath Co!
it’s not going to snow anymore let it go….cb has been saying we will get another accum snow first week of march, well guess what – next week is the first week and temps in the 50’s and 60’s … and the week of 6th – 13th, temps will be in the 40’s instead of 50’s — wow, still no snow; spring is here whether you like it or not!!!!
My heart and prayers go out the the Amish family who lost their babies… my heart breaks every 10 seconds for you today.
May God bless you and keep you, surround you with support and comfort, and kiss away all of your tears…
The weather just seems trivial next to that today…
Tim…I love spring and can’t wait for it to get in full gear, but it is only Feb. 25 and we still have a little more winter to go. There will be snow talk the first week of March. As long as it is winter there is hope for snow. Some of us just don’t want to let it go. THNIK SNOW….
ETOWN..My thoughts and prayers are also with the families. That is a terrible tragedy that we can all learn from. Especially us with young ones. I can remember early posts this winter on how people hated snow because it was so dangerous. I agree, but all weather can be dangerous.

Forget snow. T-storm season is here! Woohoo! Monday looks like another good shot. Nice 140 knot jet streak setting up, vort max nearby, strong surface low scooting to our northwest, favorable time of day for some instability, etc.. We could be back in business Monday!
Seen the latest NAO?? 😉
Yes, you’re right.
Any and all weather can….
I just don’t get it when people accuse snow lovers of wanting people to get hurt just because we love snow– like somehow we are at fault for lots of snow falling and hurting people because we ‘wanted’ it to snow. sheesh.
Glad I never pointed fingers at tornado chasers for all my home damage and emotional stress, LOL.
