Good Wednesday everyone. If you’re a fan of early fall weather, I suggest you take full advantage of the next few days by getting outside and enjoying it. We have a massive weather change blowing in just in time for the upcoming weekend. It’s a change that will take our overall pattern into one that looks like the end of November or early December.

Let’s start with what we have out there today and work forward. Highs today will hit the upper 60s and lower 70s with a mix of sun and clouds. I still can’t totally rule out a stray shower or sprinkle… especially early today.

Thursday is your day to play hooky from work. Temps hit the 70s under partly sunny skies and a gusty southwesterly wind. Friday doesn’t look too bad as we get through much of the daylight hours on the dry side with highs back in the 70s. Winds will really crank up late Friday as a powerful cold front swings in from the northwest. This is a winter blast of cold air moving in behind this front.

Showers and some rumbles of thunder will increase around here late Friday as the front pushes in. An area of low pressure works across the region on Saturday giving us widespread showers as the cold air invades…

Some thoughts on how it all goes down:

– Showers will be widespread Friday night through Saturday with lingering showers into Sunday.

– Temps Saturday will fall into the upper 40s and low 50s by midday and stay there for the rest of the afternoon as northwesterly winds crank up.

– Cold air continues to filter in Saturday night with readings heading into the low and middle 30s. Showers will still be around and the GFS is close to saying something else is possible..

– I’m actually going to keep a very close eye on Saturday night and Sunday morning for the off chance things get a little crazy around here. The chance is super small… but our weather only knows extremes anymore so ya never know.

– Sunday may start rather dreary before some sunshine breaks out. Winds will be gusty and highs may not get to 50 degrees in many areas.

– Sunday night’s lows will tank into the upper 20s and low 30s and this may set us up for a freeze.

– Chilly air remains through the first half of next week with a reinforcing shot of cold possible late in the week.

– On a national note… snow will fly for many states. The Rockies, upper midwest, Great Lakes and northeast may see early season snows.

Got those winter juices flowing yet? If not… listen to this. Some of the computer forecast models that match up current patterns with similar ones from the past look interesting. 1976 has been leading the charge on some of them of late. I have also seen 1993 sneaking onto the top analog lists. It’s SUPER early in the game, but it is the time of year to start paying attention to such things.

Have a wonderful Wednesday and take care.
