Good afternoon, folks. A few storms are flaring up out there and this is a precursor to what’s ahead for us in the coming days. We continue to watch the increasing threat for rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms across much of our region.
Today’s storms are fairly scattered, but can still pack a punch. One or two could be strong and put down enough rain for local high water issues. Your storm trackers will keep you company…
We have two areas of low pressure working into this region from Thursday through Saturday. These will bring waves of heavy rain producing showers and storms. The Weather Prediction Center is highlighting the potential for some flooding issues.
Thursday-Thursday night
Friday-Friday night
Once we get through the weekend, we find another system diving in for Monday. That may keep our tropical system just east of us. You can see the systems I’m talking about on the EURO…
Here’s the EURO rainfall forecast through the weekend…
That is certainly bringing heavy rain farther north than before and is something we will have to pay close attention to. That seems to be the current trendline.
The GFS Ensembles are also wetter and farther north with the rainfall anomalies…
Overall, this is a dynamic pattern for late July and early August. You don’t see a trough like this very much…
Yowza! Obviously, temps will average below normal during this time and through much of next week.
I’ll see you guys later tonight with an update. Have a good one and take care.
Couldn’t comment finally got registered! 🙂 loving the new blog website! And I’m ready for the rain!
Looks like my county is right on the rain train tracts.
Looking at that massive trough reminds me of August 1981.
Thanks Chris, I hope the rain from these two systems isn’t one that causes problems for some Farmers. The corn and soybeans are the best I’ve seen in a while, and I expect a record harvest 2020 in my county.
On the European weather model the trough of that magnitude is unreal for August, and could be an early signal for Autumn. I certainly hope so. I’ve had enough of Summer, needs some cool dry days.
Looks like a soaker.
