Good Thursday, folks. Rounds of showers and storms are rumbling across the state and bringing a lot of torrential rains. These storms will continue to come at us in waves through the weekend, bringing the potential for local flash flooding and general flooding. This is all part of the very active pattern as we close out July and move into August.
As mentioned, the storms come at us in waves. The storms today are loaded with lightning and torrential rain, so we will need to be on guard for flash flooding issues. Here are the tracking tools for the day…
Here’s a breakdown of where we go with this:
- Rounds of showers and storms will be with us from today through Monday as several different systems swing through here.
- This will bring a general 1″-4″ of rain across the state. Locally higher amounts can easily show up and those are the areas who would, obviously, have the best chance for flash flooding issues.
- NO… It is not going to rain all the time on any given day. You will have several dry hours to get outside.
- Temps will be held in check and be much cooler than normal, especially for afternoon highs. Still, this air is going to feel pretty tropical and that’s what will give us the chance for torrential rainfall at times.
We will also continue to watch what happens with Tropical Storm Isaias that may impact the southeast coast this weekend and early next week. Here’s the latest from the National Hurricane Center…
The GFS takes this just off shore along the entire eastern seaboard as another system dives in here early next week…
Check out the deep trough and how it BARELY misses our storm…
The trough on the Canadian is deeper and has more interaction with the storm…
That brings a farther west track…
This is a high anomalous pattern for this time of year and is more akin to something you see later in September or early October.
I will throw you another update later today. Have a great one and take care.
The weather makes it hard to make outdoor plans.
Thanks Chris, no rain recorded in the past 48 hours here in my county, but I expect that to change this afternoon. I just wish we would get out of this showery weather pattern and into a cool, sunny weather pattern for a change.
Tropical Storm Isaias exact path is still an uncertainty. The question is: will the storm become a hurricane ? This is the second tropical storm forecast to ride up the east coast. If this storm path becomes reality, how will this affect our Fall and Winter weather pattern ?
We are beginning to make the change to an ENSO La nina phase. How will this affect our Fall and Winter when scientist say that “no ENSO La nina phases are alike.” Interesting meteorological times ahead.
Thanks Chris, no rain here yet more to the north and west. I like the looks of that trough on the Canadian weather model.
Tropical Storm Isaias will be the big weather story through the weekend. Tracking the storm will be interesting.
Ok…….so the weather board is a totally “separate” registration than the comments?
Mark I tried to get on the Weather Board with no results. I don’t understand what it is for. Maybe Chris will clarify for us.
I am trying to get my picture in the space next to my post and have no idea how that would work ? Mark could you help me with that ?
sure……..it’s “gravatar” Just go there… Use the same email I think as you do here. Add your pic and I think it just recognizes it on a lot of sites if you use the same email that’s connected to it.
Thanks Mark, I will try to set it up tomorrow. Enjoy the rest of the day !
