Good Thursday, folks. Rounds of showers and storms are rumbling across the state and bringing a lot of torrential rains. These storms will continue to come at us in waves through the weekend, bringing the potential for local flash flooding and general flooding. This is all part of the very active pattern as we close out July and move into August.

As mentioned, the storms come at us in waves. The storms today are loaded with lightning and torrential rain, so we will need to be on guard for flash flooding issues. Here are the tracking tools for the day…

Here’s a breakdown of where we go with this:

  • Rounds of showers and storms will be with us from today through Monday as several different systems swing through here.
  • This will bring a general 1″-4″ of rain across the state. Locally higher amounts can easily show up and those are the areas who would, obviously, have the best chance for flash flooding issues.
  • NO… It is not going to rain all the time on any given day. You will have several dry hours to get outside.
  • Temps will be held in check and be much cooler than normal, especially for afternoon highs. Still, this air is going to feel pretty tropical and that’s what will give us the chance for torrential rainfall at times.

We will also continue to watch what happens with Tropical Storm Isaias that may impact the southeast coast this weekend and early next week. Here’s the latest from the National Hurricane Center…

The GFS takes this just off shore along the entire eastern seaboard as another system dives in here early next week…

Check out the deep trough and how it BARELY misses our storm…

The trough on the Canadian is deeper and has more interaction with the storm…

That brings a farther west track…

This is a high anomalous pattern for this time of year and is more akin to something you see later in September or early October.

I will throw you another update later today. Have a great one and take care.
