Good Friday, folks. We continue to track rounds of showers and thunderstorms across the Commonwealth and this action rolls on right on through the weekend. The threat for additional flooding and flash flooding takes us through Saturday, at least. That’s also when the potential for severe storms joins in our wet weather party.
Today will feature showers and storms early on, but the action decreases a bit during the afternoon. This will increase during the evening and overnight as another low pressure develops and slowly rolls northward across western Kentucky overnight and into Saturday. That brings additional heavy rainfall into the area and also brings an increasing risk for strong to severe storms.
The current risk for severe storms is just to our southwest for today…
That threat focuses farther north to encompass much of Kentucky for Saturday…
The setup is there for damaging wind producing thunderstorms and there’s enough shear to get some of those storms spinning. That could produce a tornado or two, so that’s going to be something for us to keep a close eye on.
Scattered showers and storms will continue into Sunday as we get ready for another system to dive in from the northwest into early next week. As this is happening, Tropical Storm Isaias is forecast to become a hurricane as it works toward Florida then up the east coast…
You can see how that runs the coast on the GFS…
That brings another system down behind it and into our region later next week as temps continue to run below normal for early August.
I will have another update later today. Until then, I have you all set to do some Friday storm tracking…
Possible Watch Areas
Make it a great day and take care.
Thanks Chris, according to the Kentucky Mesonet we had here in Taylor county 1.14 inches of rainfall in the last 48 hours. To my north over 4 inches of rain fell in Oldham county I assume in a very short time.
Hurricane Isaias predicted tract up the eastern seaboard reminds me of a “coastal Nor’easter” and if it was Winter it would be a historical blizzard like they had in 1888.
1.14 inches of rainfall yesterday in my backyard.
Hurricane Isaias predicted tract without doubt will change. The storm will be interesting to tract through the weekend and how it will affect our weather here next week ?
For a long time, I’ve kept this website zoomed at 150% because it’s easier to read. After the launch of the new site, I could no longer see the Twitter feed. I had not thought to zoom out somewhat and voila, there it is. The site zoomed to 125% looks totally different than when zoomed at 150%, almost like night and day.
As you can see Mark, I was able to display my photo with your help. Thank you again.
I always kept the zoom at 150% too, and just now I increase it to 175% and it really
makes a difference. I am able to read without the eye strain.
