Good Monday afternoon gang. Before we get into the weather part of the program… the blog was featured in today’s Lexington Herald Leader. Here is the link if you want to check out what they had to say about us… Lexington Herald Blog Article .
Our Monday is featuring a very spring like weather day across the state. Temps are well into the 60s in many areas as winds crank up to 30mph or better at times. A cold front will work in overnight and will bring an increase in showers and thunderstorms from north to south. The heaviest rains will be along and north of Interstate 64 and you can track the action here…

Colder air moves in for Tuesday with highs in the upper 30s and low 40s with a rain or snow shower.
All eyes are beginning to turn toward a big storm on tap for Thursday and Friday. This storm will have a big temp contrast to work with and will bring the potential for flooding rains and severe storms with it. Take a look at this bad boy on the GFS forecast model…
The rain amounts coming from the models of late is cause for concern and this run of the GFS is going crazy…
While the model is likely having some convective feedback issues… a general 1″-3″ of rain appears likely with local amounts to 4″ possible.
The severe weather aspect of this storm is something many folks may have to deal with as well. Here is the area the Storm Prediction Center is highlighting for severe storms Thursday…
From their discussion…
AN OUTBREAK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS APPEARS LIKELY ON THU/D4 FROM
ERN OK/NERN TX EWD ACROSS MUCH OF AR…SRN MO…NRN MS…CNTRL AND
WRN KY AND TN…
STRONG FORCINGWITH THE UPPER TROUGH…COOLING MID LEVEL TEMPERATURES AND THE
PRESENCE OF VERY STRONG WIND PROFILES SUGGEST SIGNIFICANT SEVERE
WEATHER WILL BE POSSIBLE…INCLUDING TORNADOES AND VERY STRONG WINDS
IN ADDITION TO HAIL.
The long range pattern into the first few weeks of March continues to look very wintry. As we said with our last update… buckle up for the ride. ![]()
Have a great rest of your Monday and take care.

That’s so cool Chris, but then all of us know how wonderful you are at forcasting and how dedicated you are to the blog and blog family. I’ll testify!!! LOL!
Thanks for the update, Chris. Looks like we are going to do some seesawing for the next few days, anyway.
Congratulations on the article Chris. We in Central KY knew what we would be missing when you left for greener pastures. Definitely WKYTs loss.
Looks like central KY is in the crosshairs for heavy rain later this week. To bad it couldn’t be snow. We are home of the anklebiter. Good quote BG
Thanks for the update! Sounds like there is lots of fun ahead!
So when do you sleep Patty. I see you consistently first replying at night and then your back on at noon. I’ll second the testimony, Chris is great.
Looks like later this week we might need to man the lifeboats in Woodford county. My crabgrass does need some water to get started this spring.:)
Anybody got any wood?
Hi Patty. I’ve got some moderater comments floating around out there in moderator land. Hope you are well. When do you sleep? I see you post after midnight and again at noon. Your addiction is showing. 🙂 Hope we don’t get flooded later this week in Woodford County.
Moderation. 🙁
Awwwwwwww!!
The old people always said that a late easter is a late spring. Don’t know is that will hold true this year but you just can’t tell about our weather anymore.
c.b. great herald-leader page in business monday. more hits coming….
Thanks CB. I actually highlighted similar points on my blog. It’s good to know my thinking is in good company.
Congrats on the blog article from the Herald-Leader.
SPC is already talking about severe weather for our region on Thursday. Good idea to dust off your weather radio. I posted several weeks ago about having a greater risk for severe weather this spring and Thursday will be the kickoff to an active spring.
Congrats Chris great article.70 degrees here.
Thunder in Boone county.
I’ll never forget the storm we had a few seasons back (February of ’08 I believe) that came through Lexington. I remember the straight line winds (correct me if I’m wrong about that??) were so powerful in our area (off Mason Headley) that they ripped trees clear out of the ground by their roots and damaged many houses and cars. Our street was fine and then two streets over, 8 trees in a row were down. I also remember we ended up getting several decent sized snows in late winter that year (one 6-7 incher in March).
I’d love the big snow… but I really don’t want to see another storm like that.
Congrats on the article!!! 🙂
Everyone’s right…WKYT lost a lot when they lost you. I don’t watch it anymore, but I think I would if you’d come back!!! 🙂
I’m afraid what’s coming looks like possible flooding. ughhhh
Too bad the cold could move in tonight and stick around durning the Thur/Fri system…Imagine the snow totals for the state….2 to 3 feet for everyone with Central KY getting a couple inches…LOL…MARCH WILL BE COLD AND SNOWY…
Congrats on the article, Chris! I’m not sure about the wintry weather in March. From my look at the long-term GFS, it looks like more warmth than anything. Hope I’m wrong and CB is right!
Lightning is now sparking and the intensity of the rain is growing stronger. With the complete 180 degree change in wind direction I believe we could be looking at atleast a weak squall line moving in tonight.
Have an update over on my blog talking about later this weeks opportunity for severe storms.
It was great to see today’s article because I was slightly upset last week when the “where are they now” feature on former weather guys and gals did not mention this blog. I thought Chris’ part of the story should have been about ten times longer because he remains so incredibly popular. Today’s article was great, especially the quote about Chris being more accurate than anybody else. 🙂
Rachel, I remember that storm. I watched a low wall cloud pass over my house and the wind behind it was just insane. Our horses came running up the hill to get inside the shed. I had a hard time closing the door to the porch because of the intense pressure. My hubby was almost hit by a falling tree near Stone Farm and then he had to spend an hour trying to find a way home because our road was blocked by three huge trees. I hate wind!
Love your website. Had never heard of it till saw article in paper. Miss seeing/hearing you do our weather. Lucky Huntington–we grew up there–moved to Lexington in 1964.
I love your blog and I read the article in the paper today. I am so happy for you. You do a great service and I hope you get tons of advertising and tons of money for yourself. Good luck.
Congrats on the herald leader article!!!! And thanks for all of the hard work!!! 🙂
Great article from the Herald Leader! You deserve the recognition for all the time you put into your blog. I hope B.M.reads the article, lol.
Great article!
The rain just started in Shelbyville. The temperature dropped 15 degrees in about 5 minutes and it is still dropping.
We have been giving you credit for years for your dedication. I’m glad others are taking notice. You are on a roll. I’m glad I’ve been a part of the action.
You are correct. I golf at Picadome and that staorm cleared out a lot of limbs along the property line at Mason Headley as well as some on the course. Trimmed out what the big ice storm a few years before missed.
Congrats CB. You made me actually look at kentuckydotcom for once. That almost never happens. 😉
Bring on the rain, Love Thunderstorms!!! Excited about spring!
Power lines blown down here in Anderson County about 10 minutes ago. wow…that was some wind!!
Welcome to the blog! I have found this to be the best place for all things Kentucky weather on the Internet. Mr. Bailey rocks!
JOE BASTARDI leaving ACCUCRACK, im so glad because he better than that site.
look for him to be on FOX soon as there heD GUY.
We got heavy wind in Shelbyville too just as the rain was starting.
Wow! 17 degree temp difference between Frankfort and Lexington at the moment. Front seems to have arrived I hear rain on the awning
Looks like a hurricane outside in Winchester. Lots of wind and heavy rain.
Help me Auntie M!!!!! Winds are howling here…temps are dropping fast.
Nice article, CB…but we already knew you were great!
It’s either raining really hard here in Morehead on Morehead State’s campus, or it’s really windy. Or it could be both. Definitely not looking forward to Thursday and Friday, flooding is bad here on campus. They don’t have a good drainage system; a lot of rain means we’ll be swimming to class! Lol.
I’m just hoping that if it does anything in Morehead or Lexington on Thursday/Friday that it’s just rain and not strong storms!
Noah, I have a ton of wood…a bunch is cut up just needs split..would like to get rid of some of it..for free ..just come and get it! haha
chris: congrats on the vote of confidence from warren county schools (BG), my stormtopper forecasting team @ WKU is out to change his mind this site is best source for weather info. Outside of the our orgainzation this is a top weather source in the region!
MikeM….I raretly sleep!! This second shift thing has my sleep pattern all screwed up!!! As far as the first I guess I just keep the hours Chris does! LOL!
