Good Saturday and welcome to the first Saturday in Maytember. Yes, it’s that magical day where the bluegrass state takes center stage to the rest of the world for the Kentucky Derby. Mother Nature isn’t letting the Run For The Roses take all the glory as we have one amazing weather day taking shape. Once beyond the holiday weekend, the focus of the forecast is on a crazy cold trough diving into the middle part of the country and just how quickly it moves east.
Temps this morning are deep into the 50s and I suspect a few upper 40s will show up in the valleys. Afternoon temps are mainly 75-80 with low humidity and a mix of sun and high clouds. Overall, this is pretty awesome stuff.
Temps do rebound into the low 80s after we start our Sunday back into the 50s.
Remember the original cold front we had talked about arriving on Monday? It disappeared from the models for a bit, but now it’s back. This doesn’t have the push as before, but it may being a few showers and storms into northern Kentucky…
That front retreats back to the north as our storm anomalous trough dives into the Rockies and the middle part of the country. This is going to become historic as temps hit 100 on Sunday into parts of Colorado and Kansas, followed by a snowstorm on Tuesday. Yep, you read that right. I will get more on that later in the weekend.
How fast does that trough eject out of the west? That’s the big question in determining when it impacts our weather. Duh, CB. 🙂
The EURO went from taking this system to the west coast to being the fastest to get it in here…
It does have support from the ICON…
The GFS is in the window where it likes to change course before returning back to where it started. It’s currently the slowest…
The CANADIAN is in a similar camp…
The whole setup should bring seasonal warmth until this system arrives with the potential for gusty winds, heavy rain and storms. That should happen by Thursday or Friday. Once this system rolls through, temps take a major tumble. We may see a 20-30 degree difference from one side of this system to the other.
We will take a closer look at that later today. Make it a good one and take care.
Thanks Chris, great feeling air out there this morning with a temperature of 53 degrees and more importantly a dew point in the mid 50’s and dropping as we inter mid to late afternoon. I’ve been waiting for this type of weather for weeks even though it will probably be a two day respite as the heat will be returning by Tuesday.
I don’t know what to think about the extreme weather that is forecast starting Tuesday in the northern and central Rockies and how it will be factored into our weather here in the Ohio Valley. Once again the models are not agreeing on how all this will play out as we enter next weekend.
Could this change be a “signal” to base an extended 3 month weather prediction ?
Bad news the Tropics are beginning to get active again.
