Good Sunday everyone. We have a windy and stormy day taking shape as a big storm heads into the Great Lakes and takes a cold front across the bluegrass state. The setup is one that should be able to produce a line of showers and thunderstorms and some of those may be strong or severe.
Winds are going to gust up all day long… even ahead of the storms. Gusts could top out around 40mph for some areas. The line of storms will work across western Kentucky into early Afternoon and spread eastward from there. If we are to get severe weather… the prime time would be during the afternoon and early evening hours. The strongest storms will be capable of producing damaging winds.
Here’s the latest tracking tools from the Storm Prediction Center…

Be sure to click on the radars tab at the top of the page to track the storms into Kentucky. First Alert Defender is there for you guys to use.
Chilly air blows in overnight as the front moves eastward. Some leftover showers will be possible into early Monday as hour highs struggle to get out of the upper 50s.
The middle of the week looks nice and then we get into this big boy…
That has the potential to bring some nasty and wild weather to much of the central and eastern parts of the country and is certainly something for us to keep an eye on.
I will have updates on today’s storm threat as needed. You can also follow me on twitter for rapid fire updates: @kentuckyweather
Have a great Sunday and take care.
Thanks, Chris. Just got back from Florida last night about 11:30. A beautiful week, with low humidity and lots of sunshine. Glad to be home. But not to severe weather. :(. Anyway, followed our weather all week. Glad to know I can count on @Kentuckyweather no matter where I am!!
Please tell me that tornadoes are NOT part of the wild weather.
I sure hope not….
Perhaps only a widely isolated small twister or two.

As CB touched on, strong damaging winds will be the threat with the highest probability.
What happened to the severe weather threat for this afternoon?
It vanished without a trace. Ready for this old windbag of a storm to blow out of town. Guess there’s always next weekend for an “interesting system.” hahaha…..
Dont understand what the weather maps are showing for this Thursday Friday and Saturday just bad boy. Cna someone explain it to me?
Odd that rain and storm outlooks and forecasts are getting missed lately. The trend does not bode well for the more complex art of accumulated snow forecasts. Not picking on CB, since not the only met in the area.
Are the models drunk?
Not all are getting missed of course. Not my meaning at all.
There has been an abundance of moisture starved fronts moving through here over the past several weeks. Everything looks awesome for a severe event, then it just runs out of gas. Another shot Thursday.
Which begs the answer to why the models do not seem to account for it? Same for accumulating snows, since that tends to be one of the stock excuses by mets when a winter storm busts.
Why is their no application of these excuses into the models as a form of recessionary adjustment for forecasts? I have been asking this same question for eight years now.
Darn auto-word correction. Should have been regression and not recessionary.
Amazing too! This was ONE WINDY day! You could feel all the energy in the air. Nothing to show for it.
Why do we have to wait for it? I don’wanna wait for it!
Well let me tell you I for one am tickle to death we don’t get the storms I don’t care if I never see a storm I guess seeing what a tornado can leave behind does that to you….
Hey guys Chris alright no update got me worry….
I noticed that. Hope everything is OK.
He is fine! He posted on his other blog at 2:39. Must have had a very busy Sunday…..weather.bloginky.com. Chris Bailey’s Kentucky Weather….Just and FYI..
thank-you for this info.:)
I did not know he has the 2 blogs. he didn’t indicate anything wrong on the second post. Maybe just a technical glitch and his post did not go through.
I was wondering the same thing. Hope Chris is ok.
CB is probably fine. Besides his other blog, he was active on Twitter very late. This said, a hypothetical question: who could be a nice back-up for CB on Kentucky Weather Center? This is a bit out of my realm as I grew up in Tennessee, was a WKU student in Bowling Green, then lived in Indiana (I’m now in Nashville area). Still, I heard about TJ Shuck just before (and during) the March 2 tornadoes, wonder what TJ’s “retirement” is going?
BAILEY alweays posts late into the nite, the blog always updated after 1am. this is not like Bailey.
I am worried there a family problem, hope not but fact is for past 5 plus years he has never missed a regular update post.
lets hope everything ok and its a computer problem or something.
Rolo I know I hope hes just taking a well deserved rest.
Crystal we may have to go to Lexington and fine him alright mr bailey don’t make us come looking for you…
Hi Marsha! I know we may have to.
CB isn’t on WKYT today. 🙁
I could not get the WKYT live newscast feed to work from here in Tennessee, but otherwise noticed no hint of new CB activity on WKYT website, on Twitter, on KWC site, etc. Let’s hope it’s not serious even if everyone experiences life’s twists and dramas from time to time.
Looks like next chance of strong to severe t-storms will be Wed night into Thur morning, perhaps mainly a strong damaging wind/large hail event.
This may be part reason why the dual pol upgrade of NWS Louisville’s radar has been pushed back to Thursday. Also, the same team that will upgrade Louisville is still working on NWS Indianapolis; wouldn’t be surprised if work on Indy was stopped for a while yesterday because of lightning.
Sam and Amber were so distracted, that they didn’t know which camera was on them…something is up…
I hope everything is ok with Chris and his family….
Odd not to hear from him….hope all is well with him and his family….
Agreed. Very unCB for this long of a communication gap. Easily a record for him, since even when he would warn of gaps he found a way to post or in these days, tweet.
