Good Sunday to one and all. Our weekend is ending on a rather mixed note as a warm front swings northeastward across the state. This will bring a few showers into parts of the region to go along with an impressive temp swing. The light showers of today will be setting the table for what should be a very wet pattern over the next few weeks.
The showers of today will quickly work to the northeast as the milder air fights in. We won’t see a lot of moisture with this… but just enough to squeeze out a few showers. The rains will work to our northeast by later in the day and you can track them here…
The warm front dissecting the area means the temp swing will be a sight to behold. Readings ahead of the front will be chilly with low 40s for areas with clouds and showers. Across the west… readings will surge well into the 60s and may hit 70. The temps will rise quickly across the entire region as the front swings through and you can follow the temp trend here…![]()
Current Temps
Temps tonight will warm into the 50s and stay well into the 50s to near 60 for Monday. Winds during this time will crank up and gusts to 30mph+ will certainly be possible.
Low pressure number one will be cruising by to our north and east later tonight and will slowly drag a cold front southward into the region Monday night. This happens as a wave of low pressure develops along the front and works right on top of us. Showers will become likely Monday into Monday night. As colder air moves in by Tuesday morning… a switch to light snow will be possible before the precipitation comes to an end.
Highs for Tuesday will be much colder with readings only in the upper 30s and low 40s.
This will take us into the end of the week and what should be a pretty dynamic setup for heavy rains into the Ohio Valley. Take a look at this map to see why…

When you see that much of a temp gradient setting up across the country… something has to give and that should fire up a lot of rain and even some thunder around here. Late this week into the weekend could see waves of heavy rain try to develop and the models continue to advertise some impressive totals…

That will be something for us to keep an eye on and this overall pattern is loaded with juice as old man winter fights back into early March. We have said for a while now that this pattern would lead to an active period for our part of the world and the models are now all over this. Look at the latest precipitation total forecast from the GFS for the next two weeks…

One has to wonder when mother nature will make up for the dry times of the past 9 months. Here is hoping she doesn’t decide to do it in a big hurry.
This wet pattern will also grow colder as winter makes a big comeback for most of the country into early March. We will figure out exactly what that means for us as we get closer. Go big or go home old man. 😉
I will update as needed so check back. Have a great Sunday and take care.

I have enjoyed this quiet and mild weather pattern over the past couple weeks but I can’t wait to get this party started with wild Kentucky weather heading into the next several weeks! I know many of us are snow lovers with Chris and I for one agree with him fully….go big or go home!
The radar this morning has about every color on it. If you don’t like the weather where you are just wait.
Sounds like a busy weather week for sure. I agree Chris, go big or go home. But, I mean snow. Don’t want that much rain all at one time. But we do need some, so as long as it doesn’t flood us out, I will try not to complain! 😉 Have a great Sunday, all!
It looks like rain, rain, and more rain.
Thank you Chris. Everyone have a great Sunday!
Snow lovers need to hang it up this winter and start thinking rain to help build a nice base for spring flowers 🙂
I will be in Ohio this week and doubt even that they will get much beyond a slushy mix. The warm air is flexing its muscle in all but the north north/west.
For the thirteenth or fourteenth time: Maybe NEXT winter! 😉
models becoming rock solid in showing a 2-4 inch rain thursday and friday. ecmwf fairly similar to chris’s map above.
It will trend north and west and we’ll end up with warm air and drizzle.

Finally have an update over on my website. Sorry to those of you who read it for the lack of posts the past couple days.
