Good Friday, everyone. We’re rolling into the final weekend of September and our weather will be fairly nice for most of the region. Once we get into the early part of next week and the closing days of the month, a big fall storm system is set to roll right across the region. This will then usher in a cold air mass for this time of year and that will continue through the first week or so of October.

The day starts with rain across the southeastern part of the state and some of this may be heavy right along the Virginia border. Low clouds will be stubborn for the rest of central and eastern Kentucky as any stray shower comes to an end.

Here are your tracking toys for the day…

Temps will be in the upper 60s to around 70 where the clouds linger and much deeper into the 70s for areas getting in on some sun.

The weekend starts nice on Saturday as temps range from the upper 70s to low 80s in most areas. It’s a a good looking day across the entire region as some warmer air settles in for folks who have missed it.

Temps will be in similar fashion on Sunday as our cold front and storm system looks to have much more of a Monday-Tuesday impact. Gusty showers and thunderstorms sweep in here ahead of the first system with additional energy dropping in from the northwest through the week. The models vary on how they handle each individual system, but have the same general idea…

This is one heck of a deep trough digging in across the eastern part of the country. The GFS is likely a bit too progressive with this…

Here’s the Canadian for the same time…

Throw all this together and you get one chilly end to September and an October that starts with temps more typical of November.

I will have another update later today, so check back. Have a good one and take care.
