Good afternoon everyone. I just got back in from a great run outside in this awesome weather and one thing kept going through my mind. Do I really want more winter weather? I am the biggest fan of winter there is… but at this time of year, my mind starts going toward spring and today’s weather has me hooked.
The question is… do you REALLY want more snow and cold or would you prefer the weather stay like it is and head right into spring? I want to hear your thoughts.
Regardless of what we want… mother nature is going to do whatever she wants and it continues to look like a change back to winter will take place next week. The first system works in Monday and early Tuesday and the GFS continues to bring the fence across our region…

That will be a nice shot of cold coming in behind the low for Tuesday before temps warm again for the middle and end of next week. This will be in response to a HUGE outbreak of winter and arctic air across the plains and western parts of the country that will come rolling eastward toward the end of the month…

WARM SPRINGY WEATHER is my vote!!
My vote is always for warm and sunny weather! But that is what you get from a transplanted native Floridian. Love the flip flops, tees and shorts, the bbq’s, and just being outside with the kids. Bring on spring! It will be hard to go back to the cold after this warm-up.
I am of the same mindset as you were a few days ago: GO BIG, or GO HOME! If winter is going to return, then I want it to come in a big way, otherwise, what we’ve got now can continue thru spring!

Chris, being perfectly honest with you…IF we had not had this break, I would not have cared if it snowed two or three more times. But now that we have gotten a taste of the warmer stuff, it kind of makes me want more…
On the other hand, I have seen some of our biggest snows come in March, so, with the was this winter has gone…who knows? Whatever Mother Nature sends, we will take it, and run with it, (pardon the pun) and talk about it here!

You keep referring to a cold snap coming.The Lexington channels and the weather channel talks of it cooling back to normal which is mid forties.What is your take are you thinking colder and freezing precipitation. Although freezing rain can occur it seems less likely since ground and air temperatures have warmed.We better hope we do not have snow and ice next week I am a retired public works employee and with talking to the guys salt is in short supply and little hope of getting any soon.
I am so ready for Spring, I treasure all of these warm days so I’m really looking forward to them staying that way!!
I cannot believe I’m saying this but I want warm sunny weather. There, I said it……the snow lover in me must have taken a vacation!

Hell yes, my god Winter is only 2/3rds over give it it’s due. We have enough warmth the other 9 months out of the year.
I hope March is -10F below normal with a 20+ inch snow storm thrown in there. After last Summer and 8 months of AN temps it’s Winter’s turn. I can remember when we had 4 seasons around here not just two that we seem to have had for decades now. This weather in Ky sucks. We can wait for the heat until that time Winter needs to happen. Nothing better than a huge dump in Kentucky but seems we are a dump of a different sort from mother nature. Winter has already been cut down over the decades as is. Mother nature will make the call not us but I hope like hell we are blasted in March a number of times. Anyone that thinks Winter is through on Feb 17th is out of their damn minds anyhow. This is going to be a cold,wet Spring……remember 1989? Lets hope that we get it again snow for Derby would be fabulous. To hell with Summer and Spring I wish we had Fall, Winter, Fall Winter, Fall Winter. @#%$@ 95F and $%$$##%$ anything over 65F to be honest.

Wow! It sure is windy outside! US 60 in eastern Shelby County was closed for a while this afternoon because of a downed power line.
a -nao means that blocking is forming somewhere and if it’s northeast of here ie Newfoundland, Labrador it typically means the door is open for Arctic air to spill into the e-conus. This factor is what overrode a strong nina this year it was an AWESOME NAO and I hope more winters feature this, which I think they will for decades to come. Cold and cool weather need to dominate 6 months out of the year as warm and hot do for Spring and Summer. The last 2.5 decades prior to 07 was a crock of $$@%, now the pattern will flip back for decades and that means Winters like we had in the 1940’s-1960’s all theory of course but it sure seems to be panning out doesn’t it? Winters have progressively gotten “better” (more sustained cold and no overbearing BS Torches since 07. Ask Tom Wills about the theory, he believes in it 100% as does Tom Skilling. Given the conditions in November everyone and I mean everyone called for a mild dry winter but we had the best sustained cold Winter in a decade and snowy. Hell Lexington is sitting at 27 inches at 2/3rd of the Winter! So go figure, by all indications this should have been a super torch winter where we would see highs routinely in the 50/60’s and record high temps but the NAO saved our asses, it’s unprecedented what has transpired in the past year. From a strong Nino to a strong Nina and then BAM the NAO goes Supernova mode and kicks it’s ass along with a couple of other components that Cat -NAO is one bad “hush your mouth” and thank God for it. Stay as long as you want NAO we love you come back often and park your ever loving ass in the north atlantic every year from November through March!
I want 3 Blizzards a year in Ky and I am going to get em soon by hell!
Chris – I love winter and snow as much as you do, and while I’m not craving snow and wintry conditions, I don’t have a problem with a few more winter blasts. I can put up with just about anything for a few weeks…hopefully, I don’t regret that statement.

I love the winter & snow but I’m SOOO ready for Spring. These last few days have been great & have really got me in the mood for Spring weather not Summer but Spring!
One more snow and then I’m done with winter. Starting to plan out some camping trips for the spring.
Damn the Wind! Nice warm day and was ready to get the bike out for the first time but ridin in high wind is not too fun! That little groundhog did not see his shadow and now this winter is coming back forecast from CB! Boo!! Well guess we need to realize it is still Feb. Can enjoy the warmth while it lasts a few days and reminds us there is hope!

Hi all, if correct, temp hit 73 here in Pikeville.I talked to my friend in Canada she said it was -20 and a foot of snow on ground.I told her I would be right up lol.I vote for more Winter and lots more snow.
Simple fact is…. its NOT TIME for winter to be over!!! Its FEBRUARY.
So I guess my answer is… YES, I want more winter! Bring 15 degrees and 5 inches of the white stuff on the ground for at least another month or I will feel cheated.
I love spring too, and summer has its excitement… but can we finish winter first? Geez, why is everyone always rushing things? ENJOY LIFE AND ITS SEASONS. And quit always thinking the grass is always greener on the other side. Lord knows there will be the same people on here complaining its too hot and when will fall get here…sheesh!!

While last week was one greatest weeks of my life in terms of snow, I still want more! Need 7 or 8 inches of snow to make this the snowiest winter of my lifetime! Up too 23 inches right now.
