Good evening, everyone. Today is about as gorgeous of a fall day as you will ever find across the bluegrass state. After starting in the upper 30s and low 40s in many areas, temps are rebounding into the 60s with just about full sunshine. Get out and enjoy those fall colors. As the week wears on, the focus is then on a powerhouse of a cold front arriving Thursday. This brings the coldest air of the season behind it and kicks off a winter looking pattern across the country.

We know today is nice and your Wednesday looks just as nice. highs will be in the 70s after starting the day in the upper 30s to middle 40s.

Thursday is mainly dry as clouds roll in quickly from the northwest. This is ahead of our front that should bring a line of showers and thunderstorms with it from northwest to southeast into Thursday night. This likely blast through here pretty quickly, but some models have slowed this down from time to time in recent days. The NAM is doing just that and keeps precip going in the east into Friday…

If you look closely enough, you will see a touch of blue show up across far southeastern Kentucky. Meh.

Highs on Friday are mainly in the 50s, but if clouds or precip linger into the day, 40s would be noted. Friday night will be a full blown Green Thumb Alert as temps drop toward the freezing mark or just a bit below.

The models still vary from run to run and from model to model on the next front and cold shot for early next week. Here’s the latest GFS…

And the Canadian…

It will be interesting to see how that system plays out in the coming days.

Enjoy the rest of the day and take care.
