Good Monday everyone and a big Happy Valentine’s Day to all you lovers of weather. We are coming off one sweetheart of a weather weekend that featured temps pushing 60 degrees in some areas. Today won’t be as nice as a weak front blows through the state. After that… a milder pattern settles in for the rest of the week before some changes show up again.
The front moving int today will keep our winds on the gusty side and usher in some colder air. Winds will crank up to 30mph or better yet again with an increase in clouds and the slightest chance for a sprinkle or shower… especially in the north and east. Track the drops here…
I mentioned colder air moving in and that will certainly be the case as readings come down several degrees from Sunday. Temps this afternoon will likely stay in the 40s for many areas. Track the colder air and gusty winds here…
Current Temps
Winds
This front will only deliver a glancing shot of colder temps as thermometers get set to take off for a few days for the middle and end of the week. A nice ridge of high pressure will build in across the southeastern states and this will cause our temps to spike into the 50s again by Tuesday then toward 60 for Wednesday with 60s a good possibility for Thursday and Friday.
I have been talking about the chance for some clouds and a shower with this warm up and that is still something to watch out for Wednesday into Thursday as it would keep temps down just a bit. This will be a very windy week that is basically straight out of the middle of March.
A fairly strong cold front will move in late Friday into early Saturday. Winds will REALLY gust up around this front as clouds increase. Those clouds will bring a band of showers with them as the front cruises through here. This shows up very well on the European Model…
That strong high moving in behind the front will knock those temps way back down for the coming weekend into early next week. What happens after that? You can see on the above maps there is a ton of bitterly cold air building back across much of Canada. This will likely invade parts of the west and north at some point next week and should set up a nice storm track across our region. These lows will have the usual snow and ice on the north with rain and even strong storms on the south. The first low will likely put us on the southern side with the risk for some early season thunderstorms. Beyond that… the pattern suggests the final days of February into the first week of March will see winter unleash one last assault on the eastern part of the country.
Ok… that’s all you guys get for now. Have a great Valentine’s Day and take care.

Thanks for all your work Chris!
Thanks Chris! Keep up the work.
First of all, I would like to appreciate the choice of theme that you have chosen for your blog, it looks perfectly wonderful. Now, coming on today’s post I must say that you have explained the subject in a concise manner that makes it easily understandable. Thanks for this information.
First, let me say that as a weatherlover this has been a dream winter, other than not getting the big one. The snow has been abundant. With that being said, I am ready for SPRING!! Heck , I am ready for summmer! I would also like to add that I enjoy this blog year round. Ok, now the snide remarks that are being made to some of the younger (and probably more inelligent) weather lovers is getting really old. I would imagine that someday we will all be turning to Lincoln for our weather news. It is cowardly to get on here and bash someone behind the anonymous safety of a blog is just pathetic. And why this has been allowed to continue is beyond me. I remember when folks were banned for less. There, the attack on poor Lincoln the other day just really irked me! You continue to do what you do and love and don’t let the jealous pea-ons bother you! Again…Bring on the 70’s and 80’s!
ok, agree about the remarks, not just about lincoln but any negative … but if you don’t want them, then don’t bring it back up, the other day is in the past man – that is all they want is ones like you to keep stirring it with a stick and you are falling for it. If people wouldn’t say anything to them then they will get bored and go away!!!!!!
Happy Valentine’s Day Chris and all you great people on the blog!
preach it brother …. i couldn’t have said it any better; that is a blog, you have the good and the bad .. always have the idiots getting something started. just don’t comment back to them.
Thanks Chris for all you do.It is 50 here already.Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your family and to my blog family here.Have a great day.
I think we are done for this winter in regards to good snow chances. Really rough to go through as many chances as we had this winter and top ten for snow, yet STILL not a big snow. Not exactly positive data to add to our trend.
From a weighted standpoint, it is like adding two years to our long streak of big-snowless winters. This winter and our Cats appear to have similar results. Close, but not enough.
i think cb is a little off on temps, he says will only stay in the 40’s but here in london it is already 52 and the rate it is going up will hit 60 …. i hope it stays this way, but very leary about it.
sunshine, breezy and 57* bee-u-tee-ful !! degrees here in Barbourville. no complaints here…B)
Yesterday’s high of 56° at Lexington is the third highest temperature since Dec. 1, which puts into perspective how persistent (if not extreme) the cold has been (we’ve only cracked 60° once in that time period). Meanwhile, in South Korea, they are experiencing the largest snowfall in a century, with parts of the east receiving nearly 4 feet of snow!:

Front pushing through Louisville, temps are falling a little bit and cloud cover has increased.
Don’t know if you’ll make it to 60, but enjoy the sun and warmth for now, clouds and a stiff northwest wind coming your way.
I love snow as the next snow junkie, but i’ve over winter, Bring on 70 degree weather and springtime thunderstorms! Looks like a nice day in Pike county : )
I learned 4 or 5 years ago that if you get on this blog and try to share some knowledge, you’re going to get a lot of negative comments from others. That’s just how some people are. But hopefully lincoln and the rest will let it roll off their back like I do. Who cares? 🙂
Thanks Chris! Front evidently has not made it south yet, as we are still sitting at 58 degrees here at 3:33 pm. Other than the windy conditions, it has been a GORGEOUS Valentine’s Day! Thanks for ordering that up for us, Chris!
Have a great Monday, all!
Well said lol you have been bashed for idk how long but it has been a few years lol
Finally have an update over on my blog and my first 7 day forecast if anyone is interested.
I think I have caught spring fever, and it is bugging me because I know that winter will make at least one last return!!!!
