Good Thursday afternoon gang. If looks could thrill… today would be an awesome weather day. Looking outside and seeing blue skies and sunshine lures you outside to be smacked around by the arctic cold temps in place. Readings this morning went below zero in many areas and tonight is going to be another cold one.

Take a look at the morning lows and where your temp stands now…

Current Temps

Paducah set a record low this morning of -4 degrees shattering the old record of 2 set back in 1979.

The NWS in Paducah has a nice write up on just how cold and snowy this winter has been in the western part of the state…

At Paducah, the snowfall so far this season has been 18.9 inches. This ranks as the 5th snowiest such period. The snowiest such period on record was 26.0 inches in 1984-1985. The mean snowfall for an entire winter at Paducah is only 9.6 inches, and about 9 inches was received from Feb. 7-9 this year.

As we mentioned last evening… Lexington has now moved into the top ten snowiest winters on record. The 27.4″ of snow ranks 9th all time. Through January… the average winter temp for Lexington was on pace for a top 5 coldest on record. We shall see where it ends up.

Thanks for all the kind remarks earlier about the blog upgrade that will be taking place in the months ahead. Feel free to tell me some things you would like to see added to the site. I have some cool ideas to get schools more involved with what we do and may try to get some of those going before the upgrade. Teachers… this can get your class some blog time.

I will have another update coming later today and we will focus on the frigid Friday morning ahead and a look at the warmer temps coming for next week. Oh… and how winter isn’t done yet.

Take care.
