Good evening, everyone. High winds are finally slowing down across the region as low pressure works through the Great Lakes, pulling away from us. Much colder air is filtering in behind this with one more front due in town late Monday. That one brings another blast of wind and even colder air. Farther down the weather road, the models continue to waffle on Thanksgiving Week.
The winds earlier today were every bit as powerful as we thought. Gusts were well over the 50mph threshold for several locations and even caused some damage and power hits.
Temps continue to drop quickly this evening as gusty winds make it feel colder. Overnight lows drop into the 30-35 degree range for many. With another front dropping in on Monday, the numbers bounce back a bit with mid and upper 50s west to upper 40s to low 50s east. Those Monday evening winds may gust to 40-45mph at times…
Tuesday and Wednesday are cold with highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s. Gusty winds will make it feel much colder, especially on Tuesday when the afternoon wind chill is in the 30s.
There is a quick northwest flow setting in early Tuesday and that has an outside shot or bringing the second flakes of the season to areas of northeastern Kentucky. You can see just a touch of blue on the future radar from the Hi Res NAM…
Temps recover quickly by the end of the week into the weekend as the flow shifts to the west and southwest. As a matter of fact, the weather looks pretty darn nice during this time as highs hit the 60s.
The setup for Thanksgiving week continues to look active, but each model handles it all differently and change from run to run. Here’s a look at the current snapshot of their thinking:
The EURO has the coldest look behind the initial storm system early Thanksgiving week…
The Canadian is the slowest and, therefore, allows for a deeper storm to catch up to our west…
The GFS has three different storms during the week, with the first two coming before Thanksgiving…
The third hits on the long holiday weekend…
Again, a grain of salt with any one solution here, folks. 🙂
Enjoy your evening and take care.
