9pm Update
Good evening everyone. The snow continues to keep on keeping on across the eastern half of the state with some very light snow and flurries elsewhere. Snow covered roads are common for areas along and south of Interstate 64. Snow totals of 4″-5″ have been common across the far southern counties of the state and another inch or two is possible in some areas.
Expect the snow to finally taper off in the east after midnight as temps plummet. Single digit lows will be possible in some areas of the state and may approach record levels in the west.
By the way… the city of Lexington is now at 27.4″ of snow for the winter and that makes this the 9th snowiest winter on record. THAT is impressive!!!
Keep the reports coming and take care.
3pm Update
Good afternoon once again. The snow is progressing eastward according to plan with a sharp northern cutoff to the accumulating sdnows setting up along and just north of I-64. To the south… snow is heavy at times and a Winter Storm Warning is out for parts of western Kentucky.
It is likely some areas I have in the 2″-4″ range can come in just a bit above the mark with a 5″ or 6″ total possible. Roads will become snow covered very quickly so take it easy. More updates ahead.
Previous Update
Good Wednesday afternoon gang. The snows are streaking eastward across the state and looks to be taking a slightly farther northward track in doing so. This means we have adjusted the snow totals a bit farther northward. We have your last call for snowfall map and some tracking toys.
It will take while for the atmosphere across central and eastern Kentucky to moisten up from the top down. Once that happens… the snow will finally begin reaching the ground. With the frigid air in place… whatever falls is going to stick and untreated roads will become snow covered.
Here is your last call…

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MEMPHIS TN
1033 AM CST WED FEB 9 2011
.DISCUSSION…
CONTINUE TO ADJUST THE WARNING AREA AND SNOW TOTALS. ADDED
PEMISCOT TO THE WARNING DUE TO THAT HEAVY SNOW BAND EXTENDING EAST
JUST SOUTH OF THE KY/MO BORDER. ALSO INCREASED SNOW TOTALS TO AS
HIGH AS 8 INCHES ACROSS PARTS OF NE AR. POCAHONTAS NOW UP TO AT
LEAST 5 INCHES AND STILL SNOWING HEAVILY. RADAR TRENDS INDICATE THAT
THE HEAVY SNOW BAND IS POISED TO MOVE INTO THE MEMPHIS METRO AREA
OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS. CONDS WILL DETERIORATE RAPIDLY AND
SNOW WILL ACCUMULATE QUICKLY…EVEN ON THE ROADS… WITH TEMPS IN
THE 20S. SNOWFALL RATES OF 1 INCH PER HOUR WILL BE POSSIBLE OVER
THE MEMPHIS METRO THIS AFTERNOON.
Interesting, maybe we can get rates of 1 inch per hour.
Definately noticed the north trend as well as the moisture spreading outward more than anticipated….hoping we all get snow from this one 🙂
I still say Middlesboro will get 4-6″..
I can’t see the new snowfall map. Can somebody tell me when it says for Lexington and areas very slightly north?
Someone please tell me what Chris is saying for fleming county. At work, my inet doesn’t allow the pics to come up.
1-3″
1-3.
Thanks, Chris! Love the live cams — I didn’t realize that Bowling Green had snow already!
1-3 for fleming.
Snowing good in Richmond
Very cloudy in Morehead, readar indicates snow, but apparently it has not moistened up enough to let it actually start falling. Glad to see the totals went up some..maybe they will continue to do so ..another overacheiver? 🙂
Wow. This takes a while. I’ve been trying to keep up with your comments and CB’s thoughts and providing additional sites on my blog, my head is starting to hurt. Looks like that northerly jog may be happening after all. Let’s hope that trend continues.
By the way, you guys are doing awesome at this nowcasting thing. Keep on posting your informative links.
My ‘fun poll’ ends in a few hours. You may want to adjust those totals you were thinking about.
Boyle County: light snow last hour or so. Solar radiation melting on exposed areas.
haha, well it sure looks like it could actually start snowing anytime…just how “moist” does it have to get “up there” for it to start actually snowing..I can’t do the link to ur site..but I would up the totals for Southern Ky, from 2-4, to 3-6 if I were doing it 🙂 JMO
chris pushed the map totals slightly north–hmmmm….
Snow in Lexington.
same here, what does London/Corbin look to get ?? thanks for the info.
It has been snowing in Russell Springs for an hour at least now. It’s a very fine snow. Looks like heavy snow is on it’s way!
getting in on a decent snow band here in BWG.

We got 6 inches Monday and it is coming down steady and roads are covered here in Princeton, KY.
Madison County at 2pm as well
What if the weather wall known as the KY river draws the snow up 😉
Looks like maybe another ankle biter perhaps.
As of 1:10p flakes are falling in Prestonsburg. Temps falling.
Floyd Co – 1:30pm
Morgan Co – 2pm
I don’t see any possible way that Lex. or anywhere North of there gets 1-3 inches. I would say UP TO 1 inch tops in these areas. Looks like there is no way the snow gets up there.
*NOTE*
No word yet on area schools dismissing early. The key word being *yet*
Keeping in mind, this is FLOYD COUNTY… it’s just a matter of time.
Isn’t that BubbaG country lol?
I still think my map is right. 3-6 in the south an 1 backyard with 2 feet lol
SnowGo has Floyd Co dismissing at 1:30pm.
In less than two mins of my previous post, Floyd County Schools are dismissing at 1:30p. Just as expected!
Got to love FLOYD COUNTY officials… just like clock-work, lol 🙂
Winter Storm Warning for Hop’town in western KY for 3-5″ possible. Here we go again.
Umm..it’s snowing pretty hard in lex. already. and is starting to snow in areas east of lex. Sorry but I think you may be wrong…
Jasper, AR received 12″ of snow between 5:30 and 8:30am! For those who may be math challenged, that’s an average of 4″ an hour! Parts of the state are closing in on 2′ on the ground…
spitting snow in Versailles……
Nothing in Perry yet, but it looks like snow could start falling any time.
Anyone know when it’s supposed to hit London? I’m in a classroom with no windows. If we’re dismissing early I haven’t heard.
Snowing at a good clip in Johnson County.
Still haven’t seen any snow in North Lexington yet.
Snowing lightly in LEX on the BCTC/UK Campus.
The HEAVY snow band has just arrived on the scene here Lindsey Wilson College’s campus in Columbia, Ky (Adair County). Schools dismissed at 11 a.m. central and roads are becoming snow covered quickly! Think we can reach 4 or dare I say, 5″???
spitting snow in N. Lexington
Moderate to at times heavy snow looks to move into Danville/Somerset shortly and likely to continue for a while.
Very light snow flurries, Spencer Co. 6 Mi. E. Mt. Washington.
Just started in Nancy! Stocked up on groceries, LET IT SNOW!
Seeing light flurries here in Somerset, but JJTeach, Columbia ia 45 minutes west of here so we should be seeing it shortly! I hope so. If WKY “steals” it again, I am just going to have to make them seceed from the state! 😉 (JK…I love you peeps over there, just don’t hog all the snow.)
rates close to 1 inch per hour in BWG. roads covered quickly under this snow band.
That would be like two and four feet of snow here, as far as infrastructure to handle the snow. They better hope this melts soon or a lot of folks there will be trapped for a while. Hog fever!
Finally just seeing very light snow in North Lexington off of Leestown Rd….not sure where the other N. Lexington person is, but it is barely snowing over here.
Louisville remains on the outside looking in. Shocking.
Look at that bowling green cam!!
How long is this supposed to last once it starts in CKY around Lex?
Haha only way i will have 2 feet in my backyard is if i am standing outside lol. Very fine snow falling in nicholasville but it is sticking!
Looks the heavy snow band is definately stay staying south for now. I suspect we will be lucky to get a 1/2 inch in the Lex Metro area.
Same here in Scottsville, Mitch. Big, fat flakes are falling here now.
It’s started snowing here in downtown London. Flakes look like they’re really fine, but are falling pretty steadily.
I sure hope so. It’s really coming down in Columbia right now.
Nothing happening in the Land of the Covered Bridges. (Fleming Co.) In face, the sun is trying to come out.
fixing to get FUNKY LIKE A MONKEY, sticking to my thoughts from yesterday for my area.
snowfall at the rate of 1 inch per hour here in BWG!! 1.2 inches in the last 80 minutes.
Started coming down in Somerset about 15 minutes ago. Started as really fine flakes, but now they are beefing up some. Pretty steady fall, little to no wind, so snow is coming straight down….
LOL. I hope you all get it over there too! I’m sure we will end up with about the same amount since we are about the same latitude north and all 😉
Yes, it sure is!
Snowing in Corbintown!
Has let up just a tad here in Adair County over the last few minutes mitch. Send that band on this way!!!!
snowing heavy on the jackson/laurel line, hold on tight, its a coming!!!
Wow, that last radar frame blew up between Lex. and London.. Is all that stuff reaching the ground?
snowing in somerset..for about 20 minutes or so 🙂
Looks like South of Frankfort will be the wall of cutoff! Radar drying up west of Louisville! Dusting at most in Frankfort
boy if we only had the ole NE movement what this could have been.
snowing pretty good in downtown Lexington right now.
its SNOWING in London…little flakes but lots of them 🙂 starting to stick
but not on the roads yet.
Snowing in Bath Co. Hope the ridges along the Daniel Boone Nat. Forest, that always seems to bring us too much warm air for snow from the SW, works in our favor to pull moisture NE.
It is now snowing in the SE portion of Rowan County (Morehead)–another snow day tomorrow, anyone?
Rolo, you flip flopping son. It aint ole school, but still good for a 3-4 inches or so. Trust in the LEGEND.
Snow is coming down harder in Madison County with larger flakes. Pretty.
Looking at reporting stations in Missouri, I’m not making any changes to my first call snow projection for our region. Still like 2-4″ for southern Kentucky with lesser amounts further north. Hoping I’m actually wrong again.
Pouring t he snow in London. YEAH!!!
Snow is really picking up here in Lexington.
it’s coming down pretty good here at the UK campus
Menifee Co let out at 2:40 (30 min. early)
Been snowin’ here for bout 35 or 40 minutes. Laurel County school has dismissed early too
Snowing quite a bit in Morgan and Menifee county, very small flakes but coming down fast.
Flakes were really fine at first but are getting a little bigger now here in Lexington.
What’s that I hear Rolo? Oh yeah, Flip-flop, Flip-Flop
It is snowing in Bell Co.!
Snowing in Menifee County – same as others have said (small flakes but lots of them!).
It did start snowing here in SW louisville, the snow dome capital of the world, about 15 minutes ago.
jjteach, it’s on its way from Scottsville, I can assure you. It had slowed for a bit, but it started back up, and I have nearly 2 inches so far.
Well it is snowing here, but the flakes have gotten very small for now. Hope it picks up again. Still snowing hard, but nothing is accumulating…so far..:(
2″ near Bowling Green
Been doing really well here in Rockcastle, have got in on a few of the heavy bands of snow, I just hope it continues, a estimation of a half inch based on my steps.
Same hare, roads are covered.
any general hospitasl fans here, love JAMES FRANCO character that coming back for a few shows.
great stuff FRANCO, and yes its the REAL ROLO talking bot SOAPS on a SNOWY DAY. BAILEY will verify.lol
25 a light snow in gunchester.
No snow yet in Shelbyville.
Very light/fine snow falling in Northern Rowan Co./Morehead for the past half hour or so..friend in London said it was snowing very hard there and roads were getting slick quickly..
Not a flake flying in Frankfort for now. 🙂
Pouring the snow in northern Bell Co. Car, deck, and side roads covered.
Been snowing very lightly for about an hour in Bourbon Co. but none of it is sticking. I’d say it will stop pretty soon. No chance this area gets any accumulation!
What part of Bell Co?
look on the radar at the deep blue leaving bowling green, heading straight toward somerset and london … i bet we get hammered here around 6pm
Snowing in Spencer Co. 6 Mi. E. Mt. Washington. Neighborhood street is starting to get an accumulation, Hwy 44, seems to be moving well.
Very lite snow here in the London area almost so fine you can’t see it but it’s there.
Still a very fine snow here in Menifee at the moment has picked up in intensity and has put about 1/4″ of new accumulation on the ground in about 30 minutes.
Morehead area, very fine snow..but falling heavily..and has now started coating areas that were not previously snow covered.
Looking at the radar returns it looks like lou. has one last chance to receive a dusting. This has been one agonizing year here in Lou. Come on Spring.
5″ reported in downtown Murray in western KY.
1.5″ of new snow in my yard here in knox co…and its snowing heavy!!!
Parking lots and side walks are starting to become snow covered here in Lexington, just inside the Circle.
Main roads already becoming snow covered in Martin County…
Snowing more heavily now n Morehead…looking at radar, it looks like some of the heavier bands are actually moving on a more Northern trend than previously thought..:)
over 2″ now!!! and its still pouring…
Roads covered here in Nicholasville. Fine snow pouring down.
You all have no idea how jealous I am of you. Louisville = the insult of freezing cold, gray dismal clouds, filthy salty cars and not a flake of snow to be seen…except on radar 🙁
The classic dry slot is in Frankfort as usual. Don’t think we will see anything more than a dusting here! Lex on 20 mile south east of here will probably get 2plus inches??
Dry slot City in Capital City!
The snow is getting thicker and its really starting to stick to the roads now.
No flakes in frankfort, gotta love it.
Snow is really coming down in Knox Co!! Working on 2 inches..
Snowing hard in southern Laurel Co. now.
Moderate snow falling in North Corbin. I-75 is covered and slcik. Visibility is less than a tenth of a mile and the flakes are BIG!!! Just got home and the trip off I-75 from exit 38 to exit 29 was SLICK. Be careful out there.
my husband is heading south down I-75 and he said the interstate is real bad. He has passed several accidents, mainly where people have slidded of the road. He said the traffic has been moving about 5-10 miles per hour. The left lane is totally snow covered and very slick. Folks the roads are getting bad so be careful out there and pray that your loved ones make it home ok.
in Southern Laurel County it is snowing great big flakes and its coming down heavy. the roads are already snow covered
Yep-I am now done
almost 3″ here now and IT JUST THUNDERED!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING!!!!!
225 getting snow covered in Knox county. Snow is coming down in big heavy flakes. Good night to stay in and stay safe. If you do have to be out drive safe.
Still no snow in Shelbyville.
That 1to3 in. line should be lex south!
Dry air just to the of 64 is not allowing the meager radar returns in that area to reach the ground.
Still pouring the snow in Adair County!
Awww sorry Bill, come down to E-Town for a bit and enjoy the snow.
Heavy snow in Leslie County, especially central and southern part of county.
Pouring the snow in Owingsville (Bath Co.) propably have about 1 in. small fine flakes but tons of them!!
just passed the #3 up on the measuring stick….lets see if i can get to #4 !!!!…:)
Roads are very bad in Corbin. Just had a band of heavy snow come through. Now I’m seeing much smaller flakes, but I have at least 2 inches already.
BM just said we would get .3in. Sorry already been there!! He’s and idiot.
Snowing in Pikeville light at the moment it was heavier about an hour ago.Getting ready to watch Chris on wsaz.
Its been snowing a very fine snow in SE Lexington all afternoon we probably have about a 1/2 inch or so far.
it has started to snow here just outside of Flatwoods, KY bring on the SNOW!!
Still snowing at a good clip here in Richmond. Most roads are snowed covered
Just a few flurries in Shelbyville. Looks like we won’t even get a dusting.
over 3″ here in knox co…and several roads either closed or impassable in knox/whitley counties…
Just measured in all the correct spots. We had about an hour’s worth of moderate to heavy wet snow. Huge flakes!
Corbin is now right at 2.5″ of new snow. This has all come down since 2:30!
5:45 and no snow in Middlesboro 🙁
Although from what I’m reading, it’s right on us, just isn’t hitting the ground yet. Verga storms suck!
Located between Williamsburg and Corbin. Snowing heavy. Approximately four inches of snow on the ground. Roads are white and very slick. Wrecks everywhere.
LOL gotta love ol bowel movement…
At least 1/2 inch in Mount Sterling. Streets are covered.
As best I can tell, it has not snowed one flake in Louisville. Time for spring.
I have 3.5″ now and its still coming down hard…here is what NWS in JKL is saying…
MESOSCALE UPDATE…BASED ON REPORTS OF 2 TO 3 INCHES OF NEW SNOW
HAVING ALREADY FALLEN IN A BAND FROM MONTICELLO NORTHEAST TO
BARBOURVILLE…WILL INCREASE FORECAST SNOWFALL AMOUNTS BY AN INCH OR
SO ALONG AND SOUTH OF THE HAL ROGERS PARKWAY WITH AMOUNTS UP TO 4
INCHES NOW FORECAST. RADAR TRENDS SEEM TO INDICATE THE HEAVIER BAND
OF SNOW SHIFTING TO THE EAST PRETTY QUICKLY ACROSS THIS AREA…SO
WOULD EXPECT THIS TO KEEP US UNDER WARNING CRITERIA EXCEPT FOR MAYBE
A FEW ISOLATED LOCATIONS. NO CHANGES FOR THE REST OF THE FORECAST
AREA AT THIS TIME
checkin in/ rodger wilko.
couple inchews ort so here, havnt measured. 24 degrrrees.
Be careful out there friends, the roads in Pulaski Co are like ice. Roads have not been treated and the snow is coming down. West Hwy 80, totally snowed covered. the going is slow.
No snow at all in east Frankfort! So, 1to3 in. line a bust for this area! SPRING ANYONE! 25to28in for the year, not bad!
Still pouring in Owingsville!! Not accumulating too horribly fast but that’s ok still is very beautiful.. everyone be safe roads are getting slick here so I know south they are horrible!!
Got about 2.5 here now in Somerset, by the yardstick…still snowing. Hope it keeps it up and we can wring out every last flake that we can! Loving it!
Snowing in Pikeville and the roads are covered and slick.
3 inches in Corbin and still pouring!!
4″ in bimble south of barbourville and still coming down hard!!!!!!!!
radar don’t look good coffeelaady, I was hoping for snow until 10:00 but it’s not going to happen.
Where are you in Southern Laurel County? I know it’s been snowin’ heavy here at times. Been snowin’ since round 2:15 today with small flakes. Then bout 4 or so big, fat, fluffy snow flakes started. Very pretty. I’ve been listenin’ to scanner. Wrecks all over. I hope everyone who has to be out is very careful.
I am bummed about not getting anything in the capital city…..boo…!!!!
The I-64 call looks perfect about now. Roads are fairly slick in Lexington with little to nothing in Paris.
2.6 in BWG depth of 6 in some spots on my yard.
That is amazing too, considering the radar returns look the same those 2 places. Did the roads get slick at all in Bourbon County this evening?
I don’t know how it is snowing in Bath and Montgomery and Clark and Scott but no in Bourbon County. Pretty odd.
Closing in on 3 inches of new snow here in Adair County. Just a couple more tenths of an inch and we’re there!
3″ down by laurel lake .. hwy 192 is horrible, traffic is crawling, not been treated, i guess they waiting till its over to start … snow still coming down pretty hard … won’t surprise me to wake up to 6 inches
Southern parts of Logan county has seen 6-7 inches of new snow. Russellville has about 5 inches.
A little over 4 inches in western Allen County. Roads are very slick.
It stopped snowing in Paris about 4:30. I drove to Lexington about 6:45 and saw snow and accumulation right at I-64. Fairly slick in Fayette but not in Bourbon, at least where I was.
I have a little update over on my blog if anyone is interested.
Absolutely pouring in Middlesboro Now! YAAAAAAY Everything is white again!!!
Have a friend in Nashville and he said that it is chaos down there. Some of his coworkers tried to leave and only got one block away in an hour. Some have abandoned their cars and walked back to work.
laurel, knox, and whitley counties have very poor road conditions, none of the roads are even close to being clear and still pouring the snow.
Nothing at all in Georgetown. Not even a flake 🙁
4 inches here and still snowing heavily.
Haven’t seen it come down this hard in a while.
To my Fan Club…Y’all know who you are.

Like us on facebook!!!
Gone over 3 inches now in Adair County. Still snowing very fine light snow!
4 inches in Leslie County and moderate snow
4.8″ here in the “SNO GLOBE” of Bimble,ky (knox co.) and still comin down…
5.7 Inches of snow in North Corbin and it is still pouring….. Hope it keeps it up….
Roads are horrible here in North Corbin. Measured the snow in several areas of the yard and it is averageing 5.5″ Will we hit 6″? Seen plows go by but they are not plowing the roads yet. Oh well….there will be no school here in Laurel County the rest of the week I bet. Funny how I live in Southern Laurel County but have a Corbin address.
Drove I75 from Williamsburg to Corbin around 6:30. The roads were horrible. Drove back around 7:30 and they were a little bit better in one lane. Lot of slow moving traffic. Best to stay in if you can.
It looks like we have about 4″ in Casey Co. Traveling home tonight, US 127 was completely solid white with traffic moving very slow. That was around 6:00 pm.
The most amazing thing about this being the 9th snowiest winter of all time (since records began, anyway) in Lexington is that we got there with absolutely NO actually memorable snow events.
EASILY number one for most events to get to the total. Eleven events, I do believe. Correct?
Mega lame, but it is what it is. Big Snow Dome USA.
LOL @”Fan Club”… First the Justin Beiber fan club, now it’s the Riddle fan club…Praying I don’t catch Riddle fever…lol
Well, I posted, and IE crapped out on me. Nearly 4 inches here, and still snowing. roads are very slick. One of our vehicles slid down the driveway and into the road. Luckliy, a good samaritan stopped to tell us. Take care if you have to get out.
We have about 2 inches and still coming down.
Once again the dome dominates Lexington and Paris. Another skiff of snow, just enough to call off school, but not enough to play in. Watch every radar return for winter storms this year and you will see what I am talking about. Now I feel better. Thanks.
Morehead, very light snow still coming down, has been since early evening, but probably not more than 1 1/2 inches to 2 tops..however the roads are extremely slick, at least the side roads and backroads…32 was pretty bad a couple hours ago..from the radar return looks like it should be ending in another couple hours at most..
Well, it has been snowing nonstop in Wilmore since before lunch, but has only added up to a couple of inches on top of what we had left from Monday – very fine but persistent snow. This has been the story for the winter – events small in size but large in frequency, oh for a couple of big ones…
Wouldn’t bet on schools being called out in Fayette county — I don’t see Stu looking past the nose on his own face at this point in time.
Hahah, Riddle fever spreads like a wild fire 🙂 What will we think of next? 😉
Another ankle nipper in Richmond. Oh what I would give for a shin buster…
Snow still failing. We have close to 3 inches or right at it.IT is beautiful wish he could stick around longer.
why do you fill the need for a fan club?
4.5″ – with 5″ in spots here in London.
It started out as a joke, lol but now it has like 100 people or something
http://www.crh.noaa.gov/images/jkl/fxc/20110209_snow.png
Graphic that shows the strip of 3-6 inch snows from that heavy snow band.
