Good Wednesday to one and all. Snow is on the way for much of the state on this Wednesday as a fast moving storm passes by to our south. The setup pretty much remains the same as we talked about in the last post and we will watch the radar trends today to see how far north the flakes can get.

Before the snow moves in… we are starting out today on a frigid note with temps down in the 10-15 degree range for many. Some areas may even bottom out in the single digits in the north and east before clouds roll into town.

Those clouds will carry snow with them by later this afternoon into the evening. The first call map I put out Yesterday still looks good…

I will check the radar trends today and adjust as needed with the final call forecast. Here is how all this goes down…

– Snow will break out from west to east this afternoon into the early evening.

– The best threat for accumulating snows will be across the southern half of the state with lighter amounts in the north.

– There will be a very sharp cutoff to the northern edge of the snow shield. Radar will show us exactly where this “wall” will be setting up.

– This will be a fast moving snow that will be in and out of town in 6-8 hours tops.

– We do need to watch this closely today as the storm was a major overachiever across the plains states Tuesday evening and night. I am not sure I have ever seen heavy snow and -2 degrees… but that happened in parts of Kansas last evening.

– Behind whatever snow falls where you live will be a reenforcing shot of arctic air that can send lows back into the single digits for some Thursday and Friday mornings.

I will get some tracking cams on here with the early afternoon update… until then you can watch the leading edge of the snow streak in from the west…

By the way… much of what you see on that radar will not be hitting the ground until late today.

Looking farther down the road…

– A clipper type system will dive in from the northwest Friday night and Saturday with some light snow and flurries.

– Sunday should feature a nice bounce back in temps with a stout westerly wind kicking in.

– One more little system brings the threat for a rain or snow shower Monday before a much milder pattern kicks in for a bit for the middle and end of next week…

GFS Ensembles Temp Anomalies Next Friday

This does NOT mean winter is through as I suspect snow and storm threats into March.

I will have another update and get some snow tracking tools on with the next update so be sure to check back. Have a great Wednesday and take care.
