Good afternoon everyone. I am on the road today and having some laptop issues loading images so this will be the old school text only update. Let’s break it down with the headlines.
– A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is now in effect from late tonight through Monday for most of central and western Kentucky. This includes the Lexington and Louisville metros among others.
– A cold front swings in late tonight and early Monday with a wave of low pressure developing along it. This low will move from east Tennessee into West Virginia by Monday night.
– Light rain will develop across the area tonight with a switch to snow behind the front for central and western Ky where a slushy inch or two will be possible. Eastern parts of the state will be mostly rain until late afternoon into the evening when snow will mix in before changing to a period of light snow.
– Tuesday will be colder with temps in the 20s for highs.
– The next storm rolling out of the southwestern states Wednesday and Thursday. As of now… the models continue to show a glancing blow of snow for our region. We will continue to watch for the famed northwest trend of the models as we get closer to an event.
– Spring fever outbreak very possible next week. Your friendly weather dude has a smile on his face because of it… I need a break and need nice weather to get back outside for my daily run. ![]()
I will try to have another update later today… but it is Super Bowl Sunday, so don’t get your hopes up. haha
Have a great evening and take care.
WeatherDude take it easy today. We know what is going on in the short term so relax and enjoy the game. Packers by 7.
Go Pack Go!
Old School works, CB! Would be nice to have an Old School snow to go with an Old School post, but we’ve learned beggars can’t be choosers around here. 😉
That said, GO STEELERS! 🙂
Hoping for the famed north/west trend to get a grand finale to an above average winter. I can’t complain because we’ve had plenty of snow but I can be greedy and ask for one more BIG one 🙂
Thanks for the update CB. I am still hoping for snow, but I understand the need for a warm day and the draw of spring. Praying for that northwest trend for us snowlovers. Have a great SUperBowl.
I’m ready for spring but, I would like one really good snow before it gets here. 🙂
Let’s just track it like we do every other storm!
Chris, thanks for all you do on this blog. Take a break! Enjoy the game! We will see u tomorrow. Thanks again!!!!
18Z NAM/18Z GFS are both consistent with their previous runs. Looks like a battle of the air masses and models.
Thanks Chris have a great Super Bowl Sunday and GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!
Go pack go, just because! Lol.
lol…joe bastardi at accuweather has officially thrown in the TOWEL for the late week storm…his words: its not gonna happen, not gonna be a phasing storm….oh well did we ACTUALLY THINK IT WOULD ANYWAYS???? NOT!!!!…lol…SPRING TIME COME QUICKLY
This winter is over folks.
Looking forward to warm up. Tired of the usual 1-3 inch snows. Old school or spring.
I sure wish my forecast wasn’t correct..lol
I would love an old school as much as anyone, but I think springs on the way.
I totally agree. Old school or spring.
I think we might as well think Spring…
I don’t understand why there is a WWA when the temp. isn’t even supposed to go below 32 tonight?
It will snow Thursday……..You can take that to the Bank…..Just don’t cash it ………….lol
Its February dude. Dream on.
We may not get a big storm next week, but winters not over yet.
Meanwhile, Tulsa, OK is set to get its 3rd major snow in just over a week: predicting widespread 5-9″, with isolated higher amounts…makes me wanna puke…
Winter is FAR from Over! Even if this snow doesn’t happen mid-week, there is still almost 3 FULL MONTHS left that we could see a big snow.
Has everyone forgotten the BIG SNOWS we have seen before in April? I remember plenty.
WE WILL see a big one before winter is “Officially” over. Bank on it!
Winter isnt over yet
Congratulations to the packers and all their fans, they played a good game and deserved the victory…
As for the Steelers? We need a QB that can throw the ball straight, I’ll leave it at that…
GO STEELERS..!
The Lombardi trophy is back where it belongs…in Titletown!!! Add in a big snow coming this week (yes, it will happen) and this may be the best week ever.
NAM still has 3.5 inches at BWG for Wednesday night. I expect a nice burst of moderate snow across the state tomorrow afternoon.
Back where it belongs..?? Give me a break…
Congrats on the victory, but lets not get stupid…
Go STEELERS…!
Palmer for Big Ben? lol
In a heart beat.!!!!!!!!!!!!
Big Ben is the most overrated QB ever…!
Yep,little Rock arkansas will get some good snow amounts too.Weird winter if you ask me.
Great Super Bowl!
As for the WWA I am surprised its this far east for the 8-4 time frame. I expect it will be moved westward to near the Ohio River dropping most of central Ky.
I just do not see any accum possible before 4pm.
As for mid week. The SREF continues its southern sag. We will be lucky in Boyle/Mercer to get a trace on the ground each time.
System 1 will have to have colder temps and system 2 would have to move more north.
Modeling to me supports neither and this trend has been ongoing a couple days………..Hope I am wrong.
I must say, Ben wasn’t great tonight. But he can be awesome. I guess the same thing applies to Palmer, we just haven’t seen too much awesome yet. lol
This weather is wild when my sister in Austin TX got more snow last week than we did. But my niece was excided. Although she didn’t know how to dress to go sledding becasuse they don’t get snow.
Lol. Ben wasn’t too good tonight, but he definitely can be. He’s a bengal-killer! lol
LOL. Ben wasn’t great tonight, but he can be. He’s a bengal-killer! lol
The gfs and nam both came in wetter for tomorrow but it will be hard for snow to accumulate with the warm ground. GFS said 3-5 for central and western kentucky while NAM said 2-4
The MVP for the Packers should have been ‘Big Ben’
Congrats Packers.
I still think High ‘Bust Potential’ for this little system moving in, while accums, if any, should be confined to grassy surfaces.
Jon, do you have a link?
Just look at the name on the trophy.
I hope you are reading those models right Jon! That would be a pleasant surprise. An even more pleasent surprise would be for the models to move more north and have more moisture with the wed-thurs storm! Can’t wait for Chris’s update!
Why so much certainty for the wed storm? Reverse the situation and if models all pointed to a good storm for our area three days out, there wouldn’t be so much certainty…..
I must say Packman is correct. After all the trophy was named after the great Coach Lombardi because his team (Ahem….the Green Bay Packers) won the first two Super Bowls. So now the trophy is back home where it belongs!
GO PACK GO!!!
Big Ben is a good qb, he was playin hurt and couldnt plant and throw, ill take big ben anyday over palmer
Big fat snowflakes in Lexington!!!
