Good Wednesday, folks. A winter weather maker is pushing across the state and the type of precipitation you’re seeing depends on where you live. I warned you guys last week that the fence would likely set up on top of us this week and here it is. Once this blows through, rounds of light snow and flurries kick in tonight and carry us through Thursday night.

Let me begin by saying the server upgrade should be finalized today. Bear with me and the down/slow times as that should finally be corrected with this.

In terms of the weather out there today, I’m not going to rehash everything, but it’s going to be interesting to see where the various precipitation types set up and for how long. My map for the day remains the same…

Southeastern Kentucky has the potential for a little more winter weather at the beginning of the day and by the end of the day.

That’s something the NAM is picking up on. Here’s the snow forecast through 7pm today…

As this system moves away, northwest winds blow and combine with an upper level system to produce periods of light snow and flurries. This will kick in tonight and likely carry us through Thursday night across central and eastern Kentucky. Light accumulations are a good bet…

If we take the snowfall map from the NAM and add on from 7pm this evening through 7am Friday, this is what you get…

Here’s the total from the Hi Res NAM through the same time…

Morning flurries move away on Friday as we watch the next system working in from the west. This looks like a mainly cold light rain maker, but some flakes may try go jump into the fray…

EURO

GFS

For more than a week now, I’ve been targeting Christmas week for a deep trough diving into our region, potentially unleashing very cold air and some snow for the big day. The Ensembles have been all over this for a while and now the operational models are seeing this.

The GFS goes full blown big storm system for Christmas Eve and Day with arctic air following…

Look at the wind chills…

The Canadian doesn’t have the monster storm, but has some snow and similar cold…

The EURO is also going this direction…

That could be fun and frigid!!

I will have updates later today, so check back. Have a good one and take care.
