Good evening, folks. A touch of freezing drizzle and snow shower action is showing up across areas of eastern Kentucky, so that’s something to watch for into tonight as a few rooftop coatings may show up. The overall forecast remains pretty much the same as we wait to see what two systems can bring us late week into early next week.

Let’s take this opportunity to look down the road a bit and see what the longer range models are seeing.

The CFS temperature forecast from mid-January through mid-February shows a much colder than normal setup across the country…

Those are the 30 day temperature departures from the model.

The GFS continues to see the potential for arctic air to invade the country around the 20th. Here are the new low forecasts for back to back mornings…

This is something we’ve been seeing lately from the extended versions of the GFS Ensembles and the EURO Weeklies. Those models do like the opportunity for snow during this same pattern.

Snowfall from the GFS Ensembles through the first week of February…

Control run for the same time…

The EURO Weeklies through the middle of February…

The control run for the same time…

None of those totals are meant to be taken seriously because you’re talking about a 4-6 week forecast. But, I show those to give illustrate how the seasonal models are seeing decent snow chances during this time.

Enjoy the rest of the evening and take care.
