Good afternoon, folks. It’s another cold day with some flurries and snow showers flying across the region, but the focus is on another round of light snow coming tonight. This looks to mainly impact the northern half of the state with a light snowfall.
Here’s a look at this system via the future radar from the Hi Res NAM…
Up to an inch of snow may fall in north of Interstate 64. Here are some of the model totals…
Hi Res NAM
GFS
Short Range Canadian
EURO
Skies by Tuesday afternoon becomes partly sunny with temps much milder in the south than the north. Another front drops in Tuesday night and Wednesday with a period of snow showers and flurries as colder air comes in.
The pattern ahead continues to feature colder air pressing south and that’s taking the storm track with it. Instead of big storms cutting to the lakes, we’re now seeing the models with more of a west-east track showing up.
Check out the EURO…
Here’s the precip type totals from that period…
The GFS is getting away from the lakes cutter and coming south…
I will have the latest on WKYT starting at 4 then with another KWC update this evening. As usual, I leave you with your flake tracking radars…
Make it a good one and take care.
Rain changing to wet snow.
Nothing really to get excited about.
It will be interesting when the Arctic Air in Europe and Asia Subsides to see if the Polar Jet activates and phases with the Subtropical Jet to give us here in the Ohio Valley a Late season Snowstorm ?
Snow is forecast tonight where I grew up in Indiana.
As the years have gone by it seems the more disappointing the winters have been in Kentucky I moved to PENNSYLVANIA in 2007 and have enjoyed some awesome snowfall here after all the disappointment in Kentucky.
Oh, we will get a Snowstorm sometime, but probably not this Winter. I just hope it’s in my Lifetime.
I’ve enjoyed many Big Snows growing up in Indiana in my 70 years.
Honestly, this lackluster Winter has me seriously consider hanging up my snowshoes, and putting on my severe weather hat. This is no dis on our friendly weatherdude, but more of a dis on atmospheric conditions that are baffling meteorologists and climatologists world wide. A clear example of this is the most recent blog post by Polar Vortex guru Judah Cohen, in which he laments conditions unknown in recent history, are playing havoc with what we used to call normal.
Here’s a link to Dr. Cohen’s latest:

Believe it or not Joe D I read the very interesting article on the Split of the Polar Vortex.
This would explain the disruption in all the weather models.
The author of the Blog admitted that he doesn’t really know what exactly is going on in our Global Atmosphere, as he has never seen such a Polar Vortex Split that took place a couple of weeks ago.
The Split is uneven with the big sister of the Polar Vortex over Siberia and the little sister over central US.
The Polar vortex is forecast to return to original position.
Thanks for sharing Joe D.
