Good afternoon, everyone. Our snow maker continues to roll from west to east across Kentucky and everything still appears to be on track for a impactful system through tonight. This snow maker will create slick roads for much of the state and region. For that reason, a Winter Weather Advisory is out for much of the state.
My LAST CALL FOR SNOWFALL is the same one I already have out…
Will that be perfect? No, but it’s the best I can do. 😁❄💪
In addition to roads becoming snow covered, a significant freeze up is also likely after the initial flakes melt on contact with roads. All that moisture is a bad thing with temps crashing through the 20s. Winds will also be gusty and give us wind chills in the single digits later tonight.
As far as the models are concerned, we find a similar theme, but with minor placement variations showing up…

Hi Res NAM
Short Range Canadian…
This isn’t a major system, but it’s a decent snowfall that will become a high impact travel event.
I also have no changes to my thoughts on the system coming this weekend and early next week. This starts as a thumper snow/mix for parts of the state before rain on Sunday then snow, snow showers and snow squalls from Sunday night through Tuesday.

I will have the latest on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm and with another KWC update this evening. I leave you with your snow tracking radars…
Enjoy the day and stay safe of you’re travelling. Take care.
Hoping the weekend storm goes more SOUTH!!!
Local Mets calling for 1-2″ in my area of Nelson Co. I don’t think so. Unless the main part has jets, it ain’t getting here by 3pm. like they claim. I’m thinking it’s slowing down, so main part of snow will fall after sunset, which will increase the amounts due to falling temps. (And that’s GOOD for ME!) The first line there is running into drier air, but the heavier snow is lagging in the boothill of Mo/Paducah. It’ll take a while.
I really hope that us snow hounds can get a decent snowfall out of this! 🙂 It’s been a long time coming. Admittedly, in the last several years, we’ve gotten some decent snows, but only if we got underneath a deformation band that spit out a lot, but it’d be gone within a few hours with the clearing and sun…….
I’m trying to remain Optimistic…
Yeah, there is a lot of dry air aloft on the Water Vapor Loop. Looks like it might be Snowing in extreme Western Kentucky. The rest of what’s on the Radar may be just virga ?
Most of the heavier Snows will stay North of I-64 in Indiana according to NWS. My county of Taylor looks to be in the low end of Snow accumulation if any at all because of the ridge to our South.
I think the Blue Gra*s*s and the mountains of Southeastern Kentucky along with Eastern West Virginia will accumulate the most Snow.
Here is a complete recap of the snow event for the Chicago Metro area from Monday night through Tuesday. It shows how narrow the heaviest band of snow (5 to 8 inches) was. Most areas received between 2-5 inches (only 2 inches where I live, in the SW suburbs of Chicago). This was an underachieving snow, considering that Winter Storm Warnings were issued for the entire Metro area through Tuesday and 6-9 inches was originally predicted. The warnings and advisories were dropped before noon on Tuesday.

The weekend storm looks really interesting from Saturday night through Sunday for the Chicago area.
Yeah Mike, I saw the GFS Snow accumulation map and just West of Chicago up to 16 inches of Snow may fall this weekend. Also on the Ventusky Weather Site it showed Arctic Air moving South towards your area.
The storm this weekend may have enough cold Arctic Air to tap to make a Major Snowstorm for the Chicago area.
Here in my area this weekend the precipitation will likely be a Rain event, but that’s okay by me.
Just started snowing in Bardstown! I was out with dogs and it just STARTED POURING all of a sudden! 🙂
Winter Storm Warning for my area tonight. Looks like we might get a pretty good thumping.
Moderate Snow in North Taylor county and beginning to stick in the wooded areas.
The Virga is winning for the moment which will certainly cut down on the accumulation here in fayette. I guess it will just be the timing when the air gets saturated enough. But if it were rain you can bet we would get every drop lol
As soon as I sent it started snowing tnx snow gods!!
next time you look at the Pikeville Cam check out river it was higher now it going down
The dome is still intact here in WKY . Just a coating were it leak from the dome. Lol. One of these days we will bust one a big thumping. Still got Feb and March we shall see
Looking to be a non event here….which is fine by me. Hopefully Sun/Mon will be a non event as well. Bring on early spring
