Good Sunday, everyone. Snow blasted parts of the state late Saturday into early this morning, with northern Kentucky picking up that quick thumping we’ve talked about. After a round of rain today, snow takes over again tonight and Monday with additional snow showers and squalls into Tuesday in the east.
Our Sunday starts with this snow changing to rain in the north. For the rest of the state, rain takes us through the morning into early this afternoon. Here are your radars to track the early day action…
Skies may dry a little this afternoon as our low weakens on top of us. This will then move into West Virginia this evening, allowing for a healthy band of wraparound snows to drop in from the north and northwest through early Monday. Additional wraparound snows will then focus more on central and eastern Kentucky later Monday through early Tuesday. Just watch this whole pinwheeling snowmaker on the future radars. These start at 7pm this evening and go through 7am Tuesday…

Hi Res NAM
That’s so cool to see and these setups can become overachievers. I’m keeping my current call for snowfall, but will likely bump the numbers up by a digit with my next update…
Winter Weather Advisories should be issued for just about the entire state, but we’ve seen how poorly these have been handled this winter. There is nothing more important in the world of weather than making sure you guys have the information you need to stay safe… Period. Winter Weather Advisories raise awareness AHEAD OF TIME, so people can then plan their travels accordingly.
The setup for the end of the week into next weekend continues to get my attention. A strong cold front plows in here by Friday and may have low pressure developing along it. If that happens, it ups the ante on a big winter weather event in this region. The models have all been hinting at this for a while with the GFS also bringing in bitterly cold temps behind it…
Look at the temp departures from normal on that run…
This run of the GFS has multiple below zero days in Kentucky.
I will have your normal updates later today, so check back. Make it a great final day of January and take care.
As of midnight, Chicago’s O’Hare Airport has received 4.5 inches of snow, while at the NWS forecast office in Romeoville, 35 miles SW of Chicago has received 6.6 inches of snow with the snow still falling as of 3:30 AM local time and wraparound snow expected later today. Most areas in and around Chicago will wind up with total snowfall nearing or exceeding 10 inches.
This storm definitely did not disappoint. I’ll look forward to the shoveling later this morning.
Mike, looks like you are the Big Winner with the Snowstorm in your area Last evening.
Be careful and not overdo on the snow shoveling !
Thanks Chris, So far we recorded 0.55 inches of Rain here in Taylor County.
Just to our South, temperatures have climb to almost 60 degrees. Spring not that far off.
In our local forecast Snow Showers are expected later, and I hope we get another one to two inches of that fluffy Snow that makes the trees around my cabin really pretty. Just like an old fashion Christmas card picture.
Don’t like to here about below zero temperatures.
Yeah heard that before when something 4-5 days out it looks like a bulleted than it ends up going both or south of my place. Have to wait and see how this plays out
I wouldn’t put much stock in any GFS forecast especially for our area.
My posts don’t show up – ugh
