Snow Takes Control From The North

Good evening, everyone. A healthy snow system is beginning to work into Kentucky as rain changes to snow from north to south from late evening into the wee hours of the morning. This is kicks off a snowy start to the month of February with the potential for harsh winter weather showing up in a week or so from now.

Again, the snow comes at us in waves through early Tuesday. Tonight and Monday morning will target many areas of the state, with ensuing rounds of snow more across central and eastern Kentucky. With temps going below freezing tonight and staying there through Monday and into Tuesday. This means roads, especially untreated roads, will become snow covered at times.

I’ve seen nothing to change my Call For Snowfall…

Again, that’s everything that falls through Tuesday morning. Additional snow showers and flurries will likely fly into Wednesday across the eastern half of the state as a northwest flow continues.

Here are your radars to track the snow in from the north and northwest…

The setup from the end of the week through the following week is an attention getter. The increasing threat for a harsh winter pattern to develop continues to show up strongly on the models. A strong cold front moves in Thursday night and Friday with a wave of low pressure on it. Rain to snow is possible as temps crash. Behind that next weekend comes a true arctic outbreak that will try to fire up another storm along it.

The EURO is a big hitter with that and has a third gearing up to our southwest a few days later…

If you go back to my prior post, you will find how well the EURO matches up with the Canadian.

The GFS has been showing this setup for several days now, but like all models, it changes the evolution from run to run. Here’s the late day run…

All medium range models are now unloading a major arctic outbreak into the country next weekend into early the following week.

Here are the lows from the EURO one week from tonight…

The following night…

Wind chills…

The Canadian low temps for the same mornings…

The GFS one week from tonight…

I mean, we can’t have Super Bowl parties, so we might as well do this thing. ❄🥶💪

I will update things as needed via Twitter so go check it out. Of course, another full update rolls out later tonight. Have a good one and take care.

I thank you for keeping us up to date with the weather. Everyone get your long Johns out. That certainly sounds like we have some cold weather coming. Be careful in the morning.

Chris what are your thoughts out in East Kentucky Pike ?? I am afraid it will do our usual number rain then flurries on backside. As I read it we stay above snowing temperatures most of the day tomorrow and possibly wouldn’t switch till tomorrow night? Thoughts???

I have had that happen nearly almost every time I have to log in. And I also have a lot of trouble with my password, saying it is wrong(but I know it’s right?!) and had to change pw AGAIN yesterday to get on. I was a little mad about it not taking my sign in info and then kicking me off for a day or two…but hopefully it’ll stick this time?! I have everything written down now(as before..?!)so that perhaps I’M the one not typing in the right thing(age is my enemy but not that forgetful yet! 🙂 ) Once you’re in, check the “keep me logged in”, but eventually that will expire, too, then it’s back to the aforementioned….{{{sigh}}} Not tech-wise here, but didn’t want you to feel all lonesome, Cyrstal! 🙂

Right, make sure you check the “Keep me signed in” box, so that way, you’ll always be logged on and you don’t have to sign in each time.
