Good evening, folks. We continue to track a light snow maker toward parts of the state tonight, with a bigger system taking shape for Saturday night and early Sunday. That system targets the southern and southeastern areas of the state with the best snow potential and that’s why we have a Winter Storm Threat in the southeast.
That simply means some areas have the potential for 4″ of snow out of this setup. If that threat looks more likely, then we will upgrade to an Alert. If not, then we go along our merry way with slightly lower totals.
The late day GFS continues to show this coming together…
The snow map from this run…
The Euro continues to come around…
Again, this is targeting the southeast with the most and that’s the area I’ve been highlighting…
The setup after this remains the same, but you will continue to see model oscillations with multiple systems impacting our region with winter weather and snow chances…
And it still unleashes the brutal cold…
To illustrate the potential over the next 2 weeks, the average snowfall of the 51 member EURO Ensembles…
For the model average to be that high, it’s sniffing out a bunch of threats.
I will have the latest on WKYT tonight at 11 then again on KWC later tonight. Have a good one and take care.
Still waiting for our dome to bust here western, ky. We shall see if our snow chances are in reality what the models are saying. If we get this massive cold air I like our chances.
Well they have treated our roads for the first time this winter here in far western, ky. Maybe they know something I don’t know. Lol
I hope you get your snow.
Which way, I afraid it could be more than I wish for were just over due two years and counting. I do remember that back in early 70’s we went through a snow drought then bam 1976 thru 1979 we hhad the coldest winters that was prolong and deepest snow in my lifetime plus the infamous blizzard of January of 78 that wasn’t even predicted by our local weatherman. As matter of fact it effect the whole eastern of USA .. Google it up January 1978 it will show you the images picture what had happen. It was brutal cold afterwards
Blah. Not getting my hopes up. Its WKY we always miss out
Not always Russell, were just in a snow drought it will come to an end someday.
I find the mid to late next week storms particularly worrisome for South Central Kentucky. Periods of ice followed by a layer of snow, plus extreme cold has the potential to paralyze an area. Also, it’s been several years since the Bowling Green area has experienced more than a trace of Winter precipitation, and most importantly, they haven’t driven on snow and ice-covered roads in a LONG time. So if Winter’s snow and ice makes its long overdue appearance in our corner of the commonwealth, do the smart thing, which is don’t travel unless you absolutely must!
Me, I’m ready to move on to Spring and prepare for severe storms and the arrival of several billion cicadas…
