Good afternoon, everybody. Our snow maker continues to work toward the and brings accumulating snows for many, with the main focus on areas of southern and southeastern Kentucky. This kicks off a crazy period of harsh winter weather showing up for the week ahead.

A Winter Weather Advisory is out for most of eastern and southeastern Kentucky through early Sunday.

I’m gonna keep the snow map I put out last night…

The midday forecast models are all similar to what I already have out, but the NAM is back to being a semi-BAM…

That’s a little overcooked for my taste, but the Hi Res NAM isn’t too far behind…

The GFS is more concentrated on the southeast…

EURO

You can see all the models do forecast some, at least, 4″ amounts, but vary on where to put the heaviest. That justifies the continuation of the Winter Storm THREAT for the southeast.

Let’s talk about the setup for the week ahead because it’s one I don’t like the looks of. An arctic front is dropping into the region and will then slow down right on top of us. Areas of low pressure work along the boundary, bringing ample amounts of moisture in here. Low-level arctic cold air in an overrunning setup is the prime way we produce ice in our region. This is an increasing signal on the models.

Here’s the GFS from Tuesday through Valentine’s Day…

The Canadian also shows this similar multi-day event…

The GFS continues to unleash brutal cold into our region behind this by Friday into the weekend. The latest run shows this for lows on 3 straight mornings…

Once again, we want no part of anything like that.

I will have another update early this evening, so check back. Until then, make it a good one and take care.
