Good evening, folks. Round one of snow is quickly moving into the state, bringing quick accumulations with it. This will wane a bit later tonight before the next round kicks in on Thursday. Overall, several inches of snow will show up across the entire region.
Some late evening headlines and observations:
- This is a widespread winter storm that brings a general 2″-6″ of snow across the region. Locally higher amounts can show up in bands that develop with the best chance in the east.
- A touch of mix and freezing rain shows up with this for some areas, especially across the east and southeast. Far southeastern Kentucky has the best chance at true freezing rain for a while. There’s now even the chance for a little sleet to cut into totals there.
- This snow will be wet and heavy and will stick to trees and powerlines. This means are going to see more power outages and trees come down.
- The power situation may get worse before it gets better and that’s hard to imagine at this point. For some areas of the state, the electricity could be out for weeks
- Bitterly cold air comes in behind this storm Friday morning and Saturday morning with single digits.
I’m a busy bee, so that’s all I can do for ya now.

Have a good one and take care.
Thanks for the update Chris!
It looks like we may get a good thumping of snow here if we don’t get too much sleet/freezing rain mixing in. That area of convection in northern Alabama/TN is aimed right at me.
Just flurries so far in South Williamson
Richmond got slammed pretty good. I survived the drive home from Mt. Vernon and the scenery is awesome.
